CENTRAL NEW YORK – For the first time this winter, the Baldwinsville girls bowling team received a serious challenge – but was able to meet it.
The Bees defeated Fulton 5-2 last Tuesday afternoon at Lakeview Lanes, surrendering a couple of points but still able to come out on top led by the Speich sisters.
With games of 216, 244 and 191, Julia Speich recorded a 651 series, edging the 647 set from Jenna Speich that included a 223 and 227, with a 197 in between.
Madison Hass opened with a 214 and was consistent in her 598 series as Samantha Hass had a 525 set, Layla Trendowski had a 462 series and Elizabeth Hildreth had a three-game total of 448.
This helped offset strong work by Fulton’s Addison Nichols, who led her side with a 615 series (224 high game) as Hailey Payment (575 series) and Alex Wilcox (566 series) were close behind.
As this went on, the boys Bees blanked Fulton 7-0 as Scott Ritcey, opening with a 234 game, produced a 579 series, while Charles Richards finished with a three-game total of 551.
Three days later at B’ville Sports Bowl, Madison Hass was at the forefront for the girls Bees as it put away the Cortland Purple Tigers 7-0, shooting a season-best 264 in her second game to go with a 203 and 222 in a 689 series.
Jenna Speich closed with a 228 in her 618 set, while Julia Speich overcame a slow start and, with a closing 215, had a 554 total. Hildreth started with a 236 in her 534 series.
B’ville’s boys also blanked Cortland 7-0 and moved to 4-1 overall, Jordan Sevigny opening with a 255 and adding a pair of 216s in his 687 series.
Zenion Gasiorowski had a 636 series and high game of 233, while Gabe Streeter closed with a 212 in his 579 set. Corey Smith (592 series) and Austin Cotterill (588 series) led the Purple Tigers.
