CENTRAL NEW YORK – Cross country teams from Christian Brothers Academy, Manlius Pebble Hill and Bishop Grimes all found some level of success at their respective Onondaga High School League championship meets \Wednesday afternoon.
CBA took part in the OHSL Liberty meet at Marcellus Park and saw Charles Raymond nearly win the boys individual title.
In 16 minutes, 2.2 seconds, Raymond covered the 2.9-mile course quicker than anyone, but Westhill’s Drew O’Reilly still won, pulling away to take the title in 15:07.8, nearly a full minute ahead.
Overall, CBA was fifth in the Liberty American division and eighth in the 11-team field as James Cass made his way to 14th place in the division (20th overall) in 17:30.5. Liam Rupprecht was 52nd in 19:11.5.
In the girls OHSL meet, CBA tied Westhill for second in the American division behind Chittenango, led by freshman Adele Sommer, who was 10th overall in a time of 20:00.5.
Right behind her, Mary Sullivan made her way to 14th place in 20:19.5, with Kristina Kennedy 18th among team runners in 20:52.1 to beat out Charlotte Wilson (20:52.6) as Abby Nash was 35th overall in 22:13.4.
It was the same at Cato-Meridian High School, where MPH’s Oliver Dreyfuss almost finished on top.
In 17 minutes, 59.6 seconds, Dreyfus beat everyone in the field of more than 100 runners except Pulaski’s Luke Tighe, who won the race in 17:37.1.
Overall, MPH finished fifth, third in the American division behind Fabius-Pompey and Tully, led by Dreyfuss and J.J. Braverman, who got to 14th place overall in 19:46.7.
Tim He finished 31st overall, and 28th in the division, with his time of 20:56.3, while Tae-Jin Shah had a clocking of 21:17.2 and Charlie Gannon, in 23:15.1, rounded out the scoring column.
In the girls OHSL Patriot race, Bishop Grimes’ Edy Livingston had a runner-up finish, going 21:03.3 to trail Tully’s Katie Edinger, who prevailed in 20:46.7. MPH’s Tea Hokanson was ninth in 22:56.3.
