ONONDAGA COUNTY – When it was the turn of Salt City Athletic Conference Empire division girls golfers to travel to Arrowhead for their latest league match, East Syracuse Minoa Blue almost caught up to Jamesville-DeWitt.
It took a 202 from the Red Rams to hold off the 203 from the Spartans last Friday afternoon, with the other four teams well back as Auburn was third with 232.
ESM Blue’s Jessica Griffin led all individuals with a 46 for nine holes, one ahead of a trio that included teammate Jenna Orlando and J-D’s Abby Newman.
Sarah Burgess had a 49 and Sophia Ferris a 54 to help the Rams catch up, and Anna Smith put up a 55 to clinch as the next best ESM Blue rounds were a 54 from Shayla Sanson and 56 from Isabelle Chavoustie. Khloe Welch shot a 58 to pace ESM Orange.
This came on the heels of J-D losing head-to-head to Cicero-North Syracuse Blue 152-162 at Butternut Creek, a match where Newman shot 35 to equal the Northstars’ Jessica Ricciardi. Ferris and Cleo Shiomos both shot 41, but trailed the 37 from Isabella Borte and 38 from Chloe Tice.
Elsewhere, Christian Brothers Academy was successful last Monday against Manlius-Pebble Hill at Drumlins, putting up a 185-227 victory over the Trojans.
Grace Catalano led the Brothers with a 43. MPH’s Amitees Fazeli shot 46 to equal CBA’s Hana Kang, with Aubrey Mills and Anna Fuller both shooting 48 ahead of the 55 from Caroline Mezzalingua and 58 from Parmees Fazeli.
They had near-identical scoers on Wednesday as CBA again beat the Trojans 189-220. Fuller’s 45 beat out Amitees Fazeli’s 46 for individual honors as Bella Meade got a 48 and Mills a 49. Parmees Fazeli shot 52.
In between these matches, MPH tbeat Bishop Grimes 227-247. Amitees Fazeli shot 45 and Parmees Fazeli a 48 at Erie Village to beat out the 54 by the Cobras’ Ashley Ince. Mezzalingua put up a 58 as Grimes got a 59 from Althea Simmons and 61 from Althea Simmons.
Meanwhile, CBA rolled past Skaneateles 192-250, with Kang’s 46 the low round ahead of Meade and Mills both posting 48. Meredith Sommers got a 50.
Grimes lost, 211-245, to first-place Westhill last Monday afternoon at Camillus Golf Club. Ince had a 56 and Natalie Musolino a 59, but three Warriors beat that total, led by Catherine Dadey’s 45. Macro had a 64 and Simmons a 66.
In MPH’s match against Skaneateles on Friday, Amitees Fazeli led all individuals with a 42. Parmees Fazeli, with a 44, was close behind, Mezzalingua adding a 55.
