CENTRAL NEW YORK – As they do perennially during the spring, the Jamesville-DeWitt and East Syracuse Minoa Blue girls golf teams met up with other SCAC Empire division sides for a joint tournament last Friday at Greenview Country Club.
And it was the Red Rams again finishing on top, shooting a total of 196 to beat out the Spartans’ 207, which put it in second place. Oswego was third with 220 followed by host Central Square’s 227.
J-D’s Abby Newman had the best individual score, her 43 for nine holes three shots better than the 46 from Oswego’s Catherine Callen.
Newman’s teamamte, Jaeda Robinson, tied ESM Blue’s Isabelle Chavoustie for fourth place with a 48, while the Spartans’ Jessica Griffin was sixth with a 49 and Jessica Orlando shot 50.
To help J-D win it, Sarah Burgess had to shoot a 52 and Sophia Ferris had to post a 53, while Cleo Shiomos finished with a 55 to also get in the top 15. Julia Brown led ESM Orange, shooting a 60 to match Blue’s Shayla Sanson.
ESM Blue was part of a five-team match last Monday at Oswego Country Club where, with a score of 193, it easily beat the likes of Oswego, Auburn and Central Square, along with ESM Orange.
Griffin shot a 45 to lead the Spartans as the Redhawks’ Emily Barnes topped all individuals with a 38. Chavoustie had a 45, with Orlando adding a 46 as Addison Sheppard led ESM Orange with a 54, matching Camden Woodward.
Also in girls golf, Bishop Grimes took on Cazenovia last Monday and put together a 219-234 victory over the Lakers at the Links at Erie Village.
Natalie Musolino’s 48 was four shots behind Cazenovia’s Grace Probe, but the Cobras made up for it with Ashley Ince shooting 55 to match the Lakers’ Claire Marris, along with a 56 from Althea Simmons and a 60 from Abby Docos.
Then, when Manlius-Pebble Hill faced Cazenovia on Wednesday, the Trojans prevailed 235-256, seeing Amitees Fazeli shoot a 45 and Parmees Fazeli shoot a 51 to go 1-2 ahead of Grace Probe’s 56 that led the Lakers. Zoe Gross had a 69 and Schuyler King finished with a 70.
Grimes lost, 236-284, to Marcellus on Thursday afternoon. Ashley Ince and Claire Curtin each shot 66, but four Mustangs beat those rounds, led by Coombs’ 54. Then, in Friday’s rematch, the Mustangs won again, 194-211, with Docos shooting 52 and Coombs getting a 44 to pace her side.
MPH and Chittenango ended up even at 262-262 on Friday, in large part due to the 43 shot by Amitees Fazeli and the 57 from Parmees Fazeli as they beat the Bears’ low round of 62 from Ava Hohl.
