CENTRAL NEW YORK – About the only thing that could stop the Fayetteville-Manlius and Jamesville-DeWitt boys tennis teams was the occasional rainout.
Otherwise, the Hornets and Red Rams kept dominating the opposition, with F-M shutting previously unbeaten Sknaetaeles 7-0 a day after rain postponed its scheduled match with Baldwinsville.
Cameron Lukasik set the tone in singles, handling Jake Salzhauer 6-1, 6-0 as David Fernando beat Max Karpinski 6-3, 6-0 and Xavier Sul fought through a tough second set to beat Marty McNeil 6-2, 7-5.
The doubles teams of Andrew Li-Fergus Brady and Dan Manta-Gene Balian did not lose a game in their matches. And though they went a bit longer, Davin Woolridge and Jaden Duggal handled Hatcher Gutchess and Marcus McClanahan 6-1, 6-2 as Colin Byer and Andy Dalal topped James Lovier and Kevin Torrisi 6-0, 6-3.
In Friday’s 7-0 romp over West Genesee, four of the seven points were earned in shutouts, and only Lukasik was really tested, in first singles, where he beat the Wildcats’ Noah Ruston 6-4, 6-1.
J-D, meanwhile, battled 7-1 Oswego last Tuesday with first place in the SCAC Empire division at stake, and in what was, by far, its toughest match so far, the Red Rams defeated the Buccaneers 5-2.
Straight-set singles wins by Shreyank Bhatt and Carson Souser made up for Will Sharlow getting pushed to three sets and taking a 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 6-2 defeat to Oswego’s Zach DeMott.
Luke Cantone and Anthony Pico won 7-5, 6-2 over Ben Braun and Duncan Baker, with Mark Bratslavsky and William Paratt also prevailing in two sets. Mike DiBiase and Daksh Maini, a few points from defeat, rallied for a 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 11-9 win over Cody Vickery and Brett Dykas.
East Syracuse Minoa was successful last Thursday in a 4-3 victory over West Genesee, claiming all of its points in straight sets, including singles matches where Noah Satterlee beat Ian Palmieri 7-5, 6-2 and Josh Spilka got a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of John Diem.
Over in doubles, Krish Patel and Donovan Randall dominated Nathan Smith and Ty’san Scott 6-1, 6-0, and by those same scores Jayce Domres and Joe Leveroni beat Sam Barth and Josh Price.
A day later, ESM lost, 6-1, to Liverpool, notching its lone point when Spilka, in first singles, blanked Bryce Blanch 6-0, 6-0. The Warriors claimed every other point in two sets, the closest of them in doubles, where Randall and Jacob Harmon lost 7-5, 6-1 to Andrew Caimano and Aiden Hunter.
Making up a rained-out match with Cicero-‘North Syracuse on Saturday, ESM fell to the Northstars in another 6-1 decision, with Jack and Noah Satterlee getting the Spartans’ point in doubles when they beat Daniel Jordan and Brady Petranchuk 6-4, 6-4. C-NS won every other match in two sets.
Elsewhere, Christian Brothers Academy found the win column last Tuesday by blanking Phoenix 5-0. Chanu Yang, Soren Kang and Gabriel Yang dropped just one game in six sets of singles play as the doubles teams of Finn Doyle-Fabrizio Arezzo and Will Vandemeer-John Engle also got shutouts.
In Friday’ 4-1 win over Onondaga/Westhill, CBA got easy doubles wins from Doyle-Arrezo and Vandemeer-Engle, with Kang and Gabriel Yang adding singles points, Yang handling Cameron Fowler 6-0, 6-3.
