CENTRAL NEW YORK – Area high school girls lacrosse teams were supposed to plunge into the heart of their respective league schedules before all the early-week snow caused a rash of postponements.
It was gone, though, by Thursday night, and there some teams resumed, including Westhill, who prove quite impressive in rolling to a 14-2 victory over Cazenovia.
The Warriors’ defense blanked the 4-2 Lakers during the first half, accumulating a 7-0 advantage. Then it kept pulling further away as Grace Winkler and Rosemary Mahoney each finished with four goals and one assist.
Karly Dillabough scored twice, adding an assist. Gianna Zerillo had one goal and one assist as Adelaide Lowery, Aliyah Mattox and Sienna Jetter added single goals. Kara Rosenberger contributed an assist.
Marcellus returned to action on Friday night and, against the Mexico Tigers, had little trouble as, by a 20-2 margin, the Mustangs improved its record to 4-1 overall.
Five different Mustangs players had hat tricks, led by Anna Spitzer, who scored three times and added three assists.
Annalise Bird, Cece Powell, Kadie Tierney and Claire Card matched each other with three goals and one assist, while Quinn Burnett and Lucy Powell both got two goals and one assist. Lauren Weidner added a pair of goals.
As that went on, Skaneateles returned to action and rolled past Homer 17-5, again getting off to a quick start as the Lakers were up 11-2 by halftime.
Lilly Marquardt, with three goals and three assists, led a well-balanced attack where Rachel Hackler and Bella Brogan also scored three times. Ava Logan and Kathryn Morrissey both got two goals and two assists as Paige Willard also converted twice. Single goals went to Ella Bobbett and Tatum Ryan.
Jordan-Elbridge got into the win column for the first time this spring when it took apart Mexico 18-0 last Monday night before the snows arrived.
Gabrielle Gunnip flourished against the Tigers, netting eight goals. Brooke Tanner had four goals and one assist, while Kyra Dominick had three goals and one assist. Single goals went to Riley Crawford, Ireland Hill and Lily Humphries, with Crawford adding a pair of assists.
Later, on Thursday, J-E lost 15-3 to Chittenango, with Gunnip earning two of the goals and the other going to Makayla Penird. Tanner and Crawford got assists as Tomi Newkirk, with four goals and two assists, paced the Bears.
In Saturday’s 17-5 defeat to Oswego, Gunnip earned all five of the Eagles’ goals. Hill, Crawford and Humphries had one assist apiece, with Alliana DiBlasi pacing the Buccaneers thanks to her seven goals and two assists.
