SYRACUSE – Even with all of sorts of top individual performances, the Fayetteville-Manlius indoor track and field teams could not reach the top of the standings during Wednesday’s Section III Class AA championships at SRC Arena.
With 103 points, the boys Hornets got close, only to see Baldwinsville prevail with 112 points as F-M’s girls had 92.5 points but were well back of Cicero-North Syracuse’s top total of 162.
Going 1-2 in the boys 1,600-meter run, F-M had Will Seamans win in four minutes, 46.03 seconds, just ahead of the 4:46.93 from Anthony Otis. Seamans also took second in the 1,000-meter run in 2:44.60 as Ben Perry (2:51.70) was sixth.
Ore Abolade had a big meet, too, getting second place in the triple jump with a top attempt of 41 feet 4 inches and also finishing second in the long jump with 20’7 1/2”. Guy Juran took fifth in the triple jump with 38’1 1/4”.
Ben Perry took third in the 3,200-meter run in 10:03.77, with Nolan McGinn seventh. The Hornets ran to fourth place in the 4×400 relay in 3:44 flat.
Connor Ball, in 8.72 seconds, ran to second place in the 55-meter hurdles and also paired with Abolade, Seth Albert and Vincent Hunt to finish third in the 4×200 relay in 1:36.63.
Trevor Kurkin ran 600 meters in 1:30.36 for fourth place, ahead of Cooper Dereszynski (1:30.96) in sixth place to go with helping Seamans, Otis and Perry take second in the 4×800 relay in 8:38.16 to West Genesee’s winning 8:33.42.
Deyquan Crawford cleared 5’4” for second place in the high jump. Tyler Dixie had a third-place shot put toss of 42’6”, ahead of Liam Malgieri (38’7”) in fifth place to go with a seventh in the weight throw as Albert was fifth in the 55-meter dash in exactly seven seconds to go with a seventh in the 300-meter dash.
For the F-M girls, Maya McKenzie was victorious in the 55 sprint, her 7.56 seconds beating out a field that included Natalee Barber, who was third in 7.71 to go with a fourth (9.40) in the 55 hurdles. In the 300, McKenzie got second place in 43.87 seconds to the 42.79 from C-NS’s Marissa Doty.
Winning the 4×800, the Hornets had Hannah Kaercher, Izzie Sullivan, Isabella Adrian and Amelia Amack roar to a time of 9:36.85, with C-NS (10:01.85) a distant second.
Wren Usiatynski dominated the pole vault, clearing 10’6” as no other competitor got past the 8-foot mark.
Kaercher (9:45.10) and Sullivan (9:57.15) were second and third, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run behind C-NS’s Kate Putman (9:35.41), who also won the 600 Amack was third in the 600 in 3:02.45
Adrian, Maria Khalifeh, Brigid Teaken and Elrose Hanlon were third in the 4×400 in 4:21.28 as Khalifeh took third in the 1,500-meter run in 5:03.65. Barber, Teaken, Hanlon and McKenzie were third in the 4×200 in 1:51.83.
In the long jump, Elina Cabrera landed in third place, going 15’5 1/4” as she also tied for sixth in the high jump, clearing 4’6”.
Moving to Saturday’s sectional Class B-1 meet, Christian Brothers Academy won a handful of events and finished fifth in both divisions as Westhill swept the team honors.
Cooper Groat was victorious in the boys 1,000 in 2:36.18, nearly seven seconds ahead of the field, also pairing with Darien Williams, Chris Zajdel and Cameron Smith to win the 4×200 in 1:38.99, edging Westhill’s 1:39.25.
Williams took second in the 55 sprint in 6.86 seconds as Joel Gonzalez (6.98) was fifth. Zajdel landed in third place in the 300 in 38.44 seconds as Joe McMahon was third in the 1,600 in 4:45.95.
On the girls side, CBA’s Bella Cannizzo gained a win in the 1,500 in exactly 5:20, with no one else breaking the 5:30 mark. Then Canizzo, Grace Fletcher, Abby Nash and Ally Roueche combined to win the 4×800 in 10:43.04.
Fletcher took third (1:46.48) and Roueche fourth (1:49.32) in the 600. Amazin Spencer was fourth in the 55 sprint and Mary Sullivan was fourth in the 1,000.
