SYRACUSE – Everywhere in Wednesday night’s Section III Class AA championship meet, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls indoor track and field team was making an impact.
And that total effort translated into a smashing victory for the Northstars, who with 165 points rolled to the sectional title well clear of Fayetteville-Manlius, who was second with 92.5 points.
Kate Putman set the night’s tone in the first race, the 3,000-meter run, where she sped to a winning time of nine minutes, 35.41 seconds to beat F-M’s star duo of Hannah Kaercher (9:45.10) and Izzie Sullivan (9:57.15) as Marissa Navarra (10:51.75) finished fifth.
Later, in the 600-meter run, Putman prevailed in 1:37.98, part of a 1-2-3 Northstars sweep that included Marissa Doty second in 1:41.06 and Sophia Graham third in 1:42.78. Doty got a victory of her own in the 300-meter dash in 42.79 seconds, beating out Grace Murray (43.92) in third place.
Hannah Boyle took her turn in the 1,000-meter run where, in 2:54.90, she beat out Gabby Putman’s second-place 2:59.66 as Katy Harbold (3:09.33) was fifth. Then Boyle won again at 1,500 meters, going 4:41.91, with Navarra again in fifth place in 5:06.63.

Maria Sanfilippo made it to second place in the weight throw with a heave of 31’3 3/4″. Kaleigh Bosimenu cleared 7’6″ in the pole vault for fourth place, with Crivelli fourth in the long jump by going 14’7 1/2″.
One event C-NS did not win was the 4×200 relay, where Liverpool saw the quartet of Sophia Jarosz, Mia Wright, Margaret Bellew and Anaharie Anderson put up a time of 1:49.86, just ahead of the Northstars’ 1:50.41 from Boyle, Doty, Mackey and Juilanna Remiesiewicz.
Beatrize Gurgol rose to second in the triple jump, going 33’10 3/4″. Ballew was fourth in the 55 sprint in 7.74 seconds, with Addison Ziegler fourth in the 600 in 1:44.40 and Anderson sixth (9.70) in the 55 hurdles.

Meanwhile, in the boys sectional Class AA meet, Liverpool gained third place with 68 points behind Baldwinsville and F-M, with Jalen Graham breaking another sectional record in the weight throw.
Graham’s toss of 68’8 3/4″ not only set the sectional mark, it was a full 20 feet ahead of any of his challengers. And Graham still had enough left to win the shot put with a throw of 45’7 3/4″, more than two feet clear of B’ville’s Pat Pasho (43’2″).
Hagan got his first victory in the 1,000 in 2:40.29, more than four seconds clear of the field, and went to the 600 where he prevailed again in 1:24.36 over C-NS’s Gavin McAllister (1:27.01) in second place.

The Warriors were fourth in the 4×800 in 8:50.87 and fifth (1:40.94) in the 4×200.
More than half of C-NS’s 54 points came from three events, including the pole vault, where McAllister was the lone competitor to clear 10’6″, and the 55 hurdles, where Carlton Garnes prevailed in 7.95 seconds, well clear of the 8.72 from F-M’s Connor Ball.
Trevon Walker got third in the long jump with a leap of 20’6 1/2″, and had a fourth-place triple jump of 38’11” just behind Garnes’ third-place 39’4″
In addition to the pole vault and his runner-up finish in the 300, McAllister took fifth place in the 300 in 38.53 seconds, edging out James McConnell (38.66) in sixth. The Northstars were fifth in the 4×800 in 9:16.18 and sixth in the 4×400 in 3:51.04.
