SYRACUSE – The Cazenovia boys indoor track and field team met tough competition and held its own during Saturday’s morning session of the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
Overall, the Lakers picked up 39.5 points for seventh place as East Syracuse Minoa (92 points) edged Liverpool (91 points) to claim the top spot.
And 10 of those points were earned by sophomore Cassidy Gilmore, who in the 600-meter run claimed that race in one minute, 30.23 seconds, comfortably ahead of the 1:32.10 from ESM’s Caleb Byrd as Dan Millson was sixth in 1:33.56.
Gillmore also was fourth in the 300-meter dash in 39.05 seconds, with J.P. Hoak 10th in 40.06. Dylan Shephard took seventh in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.52 seconds and, along with Hoak, Millson and Andrew Lee, was seventh in the 4×200 relay in 1:45.29.
Jed Olkowski threw the shot put 36 feet 6 ¾ inches to land in fourth place as Andrew Falso was 15th in the weight throw. Millson, 11th in the long jump, had a sixth-place triple jump of 37”6” as Connor Frisbie was 10th, but improved to a tie for sixth in the high jump, clearing 5’3”.
Carter Ruddy, clearing 8’6”, earned fourth place in the pole vault. Brandon McColm was 10th in the 3,200-meter run and Eddie Comeau 11th in the 1,600-meter run as the Lakers ran to eighth place in the 4×400 relay in 4:41.70.
Later, in the afternoon session of the Kirschenheiter meet, Chittenango gained victories, including one by its girls 4×400 relay team.
The Bears’ quartet of Jordan Wagner, Hannah Wagner, Abby Horning and Madison Wagner went 4:35.89 to beat out the 4:36.88 from runner-up Jamesville-DeWitt.
Meanwhile, in the boys 1,600-meter run, Chittenango’s Caleb LeBlanc added to his season-long win total, his 4:32.43 nearly four seconds ahead of Fayetteville-Manlius’ Will Seamans (4:36.29).
Then, in the final race of the night, Chittenango saw its boys 4×200 relay quartet of Joseph Lin, Robert Pierce, Syris Dwyer and Manu Tipa go 1:49.87 to hold off South Jefferson (1:50.82) for the victory
Lin, Dwyer, Tipa and Syris Dwyer were fourth in the boys 4×400 in 4:02.23, with the Bears also fourth in the 4×800 in 9:57.39 as Shaumus Eiffe took sixth in the 600 in 1:38.39.
Laura Powers ran 1,500 meters in 5:26.83 to finish fourth in that girls race. Mackenzie Byrne finished sixth in the 1,000 in 3:55.41. Hannah Wagner, in 2:01.42, edged Madison Wagner (2:01.81) and Horning (2:02.06) for sixth place in the 600, with Madison Wagner claiming fifth in the 300 in 46.58 seconds.
