CENTRAL NEW YORK – Though they share the same facility, it’s clear, at least for the moment, that the Christian Brothers Academy/Jamesville-DeWitt ice hockey team has quite an edge on Fayetteville-Manlius.
When those two sides went head-to-head on Dec. 17 at State Fair Coliseum, the Brothers unleashed its attack on the Hornets and did not let up until it had secured an 8-1 victory.
Half the production came from CBA/J-D’s John Sheridan, who set a new career mark when he poured in four goals as Finn Wheeler scored twice and got a trio of assists, matching Seamus McIntyre.
Will Sharlow had one goal and one assist, with Gavin Parks also scoring. Quinn Wimer, Gavin Dunfor, G.P. Giamartino, Seamus Nicholson and Logan McDougall also had assists.
It was Joey Leveroni earning F-M’ s lone goal, with assists credited to Walker Thomson and Logan McDonald. Chris Finger played in goal and recorded 43 saves.
This was F-M’s fifth consecutive defeat, but it finally broke that skid at Fulton last Tuesday night, able to produce enough for a 4-1 win helped by Finger stopping 44 of the Red Raiders’ 45 shots.
Jonas Oesterle carried the Hornets’ attack, eventually producing a three-goal hat trick as it wasn’t until the third period when F-M, up 2-1, was able to get away.
Michael Laduke had the other Hornets goal, with Charlie Lorraine getting two assists. Single assists went to Leveroni, McDonald and Will Sanzone.
Meanwhile, CBA/J-D ventured to Clinton where, climbing to the .500 mark at 3-3-1, it was able to turn back the Warriors by a score of 5-3.
Each team scored in each period, but it was the Brothers building a 4-2 advantage by the end of the second led by Wheeler, who had a goal and two assists.
CBA/J-D had five different goal-scorers as Wimer, McDougal, McIntyre and Joe Dotterer also converted. Assists went to Dunford, Alex Binsack and Ty Parker.
