SYRACUSE – Consistency and depth helped push the Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field team to a first-place finish in last Saturday’s morning session of the George Constantino Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
The Bees’ total of 109 points won out over East Syracuse Minoa (91.5) and Fayetteville-Manlius (89), in large part because it claimed points in 15 out of the 16 events.
Again winning the 55-meter dash, Sam Mellinger sprinted to the finish line in 6.79 seconds, chased by, among others, Amir Akins, who was seventh in 7.13, while Jeff Ragonese was victorious in the 1,000-meter run in 2:56.01.
Logan Hayes claimed the other sprint, taking the 300-meter dash in 38.46 with teammate Zach Aria (40.88) ninth. Hayes, Jack McAllister, Owen Weaver and Dylan Wertheim were second in the 4×400 relay in 3:46.04. Wertheim also finished third in the pole vault.
Weaver, in the long jump, took second place with 19 feet 3 1/2 inches as Robert Thompson (18’10”) was sixth, with Weaver also second in the triple jump in 39’1 3/4″ as ESM’s Rocky El won both events.
McAllister got third place in the 600-meter run in 1:30.58. Logan Zapf ran to fourth place in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.40 seconds, with Jackson Creelman fifth in 9.60.
Pat Pasho, with a shot put throw of 39’10”, edged out teammate Dan Ewald (39’8 3/4″) in fifth place as, in the weight throw, Gibson Boudov was fifth with 40’3 3/4″ as Amari Akins (38’8 3/4″) got seventh place.
Arthur Bauer went 3,200 meters in 10:40.70 to grab fourth place. Ragonese finished seventh in the 1,600-meter run in 4:55.55, with Bauer 10th in 5:04.97 as Kyle Sheckler, Brayden Bolton, Kellan Vannatta and Noah Covert were third in the 4×800 relay in 9:49.87.
Meanwhile, in the girls edition of the Constantino meet B’ville earned 61.5 points and finished third behind F-M’s 116 points and Cazenovia’s 77 points.
And once again Sydney McKenney set a school record in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet after she helped Kelsey Dwyer, Mia Pozzi and Avamarie Davis take second in the 4×200 in 1:57.01. McKenney also tied for seventh in the high jump topping 4’6″.
The Bees won the 4×400 when Claire Horan, Madison Kennedy, Avamarie Davis and Carlie DeSimone went 4:31.06 to finish well clear of runner-up Cazenovia (4:46.65) and the field. Kelsey Dwyer,
Madison Kennedy went 44.75 seconds for second place in the 300, with Dwyer fourth in 46.38 seconds. Kamryn Barton, in the 600, got second place in 1:52.45 to the 1:51.11 from Jordan-Elbridge’s Coral Uhle as Adrianna Orlando got 10th place in 1:58.96.
Sophia Cavalieri got fifth place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:16.99 as Cavalieri, Kennedy, Kamryn Barton and Brianna Grosso were third in the 4×800 in 10:59.56.
Lily Horan was seventh in the long jump with 13’8″ as Anaiya Johnson was seventh in the triple jump with 26’4 3/4″. Pozzi finished 10th in the 55 sprint in 8.01 seconds. Adelyn Ameigh-Coggen finished ninth in the 1,000 and Keira Brady was 10th in the 3,000-meter run.
