SKANEATELES – Three meets into its season, the Skaneateles girls swim team remains undefeated.
The Lakers made it 3-0 last Tuesday night when, hosting West Genesee, it won each of the first 10 events on the card on the way to routing the Wildcats 104-76.
Senior Hana Spaulding continued her dazzling start, tearing through the 100-yard freestyle in 52.51 seconds after posting a top time of 24.25 seconds in the 50 freestyle.
Also winning twice, Alice Spaulding covered the 200 individual medley in 2:23.83 before she claimed first place in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.34 to the 1:06.60 from teammate Amelia Musso.
With 216.25 points, Carlee Pitman held off a challenge from WG’s Lily Mauro (195.55) to take the diving competition before Ariana Matthews won the 500 freestyle in 5:46.25 ahead of Lily Winkelman’s 6:05.62.
A close 100 backstroke had Marcella Buchholz prevail in 1:16.22 to Kyla Palmer’s 1:17.09. Similarly, the 100 breaststroke had Caitlin Comer going 1:17.90 to edge Winkelman’s 1:18.46.
Musso and Comer joined Matthews and Sophia Soprano for a time of 1:52.54 in the 200 freestyle relay after Musso, Winkelman and the Spaulding sisters won the 200 medley relay in 2:00.10. The 400 freestyle relay had the Spauldings, Soprano and Matthews pair up for 3:55.24.
On WG’s side, Angie Gittschau was second in the 200 IM in 2:39.20, with Anna Ivery second in the 50 freestyle in 25.85 seconds. Ivery, Gittschau, Adriana Gill and Maddie Owczarzak swam the 200 freestyle relay in 1:54.22.
Two days later, the Wildcats’ meet with Baldwinsville was postponed.
Meanwhile, Skaneateles saw Pitman go to Saturday’s Owego Diving Invitational and, with a score of 366.05 points, which put her second in that event and also into the top 10 of the state standings this season.
Skaneateles would take on Oswego and Southern Cayuga this week, just as West Genesee met Syracuse City and Cicero-North Syracuse to close out September.
