LIVERPOOL – For the second time in as many weeks, Baldwinsville girls swimmers Eva Smith and Ashley Konz notched two individual wins apiece in a head-to-head meet.
This time it happened at Liverpool, where the Bees did not have the depth to match the Warriors in a 100-75 defeat last Tuesday night, but it didn’t hamper how Smith and Konz performed.
First appearing in the 200-yard individual medley, Smith went two minutes, 17.13 seconds to easily top Liverpool’s Emerson Gellert (2:36.66) and the field.
It was also lopsided in the 100 butterfly where Smith, going 1:04.96, was more than four seconds clear of the 1:09.56 from the Warriors’ Brianna Kuznia.
As for Konz, she engaged in a classic 200 freestyle battle with Kuznia and won by six-hundredths of a second, going 2:10.36 to Kuznia’s 2:10.42. Later, in the 100 breaststroke, Konz won in 1:18.04 to the 1:24.77 from Liverpool’s Sydney Hayes.
Mia Rinko got second place (1:02.17), just behind Julia King (1:01.90), in the 100 freestyle, also pairing with Konz, Erin Gruppe and Mercedez Walker to post a time of 1:57.44 in the 200 freestyle relay as Walker went 1:19.20 in the 100 backstroke for first-place points.
B’ville’s meet with West Genesee last Thursday got postponed, with the Bees then getting set to host Christian Brothers Academy and Oswego this week.
