ONONDAGA COUNTY – Prevailing in its division at the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Tournament on Sept. 11, the Baldwinsville girls volleyball team was increasing in confidence with each appearance.
This was quite evident in last Monday’s match against a Fayetteville-Manlius side just two days removed from winning the Gold division of its own tournament.
The Bees swept the Hornets, the key moment coming in the first set when it proved close, but B’ville emerged on top 25-23.
Claiming the next two sets 25-15 and 25-14, B’ville saw Kyrah Wilbur put away 12 kills and three aces and excel on the defensive side, too, earning 14 digs.
Veronica Derosh also finished with 14 digs, while Kathryn AuClair had eight digs and Sadie Phelps had six digs, plus two kills and two aces. Some of Madison MacKaig’s 20 assists went to Jayda Pyle, who had four kills, and Gianna May, who had three kills.
A 25-6, 25-9, 25-3 sweep of Henninger followed two nights later, with the Bees then heading to a tournament at Victor in advance of matches this week against West Genesee and Corcroan.
Meanwhile, the tough start for the Baldwinsville boys volleyball team continued.
Swept by Liverpool on Sept. 9, the Bees then had to face Cicero-North Syracuse last Monday and took a 25-10, 25-16, 25-14 defeat to the Northstars.
Liam Ramsey finished with four kills, with Aidan Delaney adding two kills. Brendan Micho got eight assists as he and Brayden Kudarauskas both picked up two aces. Kudarauskas added four digs.
On C-NS’s side, Joe Selliger led with eight kills, helped on the front line by Gabe LaRobardiere (five kills) and Reece Congel (four kills). Robbie Siechen picked up 14 assists.
B’ville again was unable to earn a set in last Friday’s 25-21, 25-16, 25-21 defeat to Jamesville-DeWitt, even though it did inch closer to the Red Rams than it did with C-NS.
Micho, with his 19 assists, passed it to Ramsey, who had five kills, along with Delaney and Caleb Way, who got four kills apiece. Delaney and Micho both earned three aces as J-D got 10 kills from Ty Parker, eight kills from Avery Tyson and 14 assists from Matt Keeler.
