BALDWINSVILLE – Already in September, the Baldwinsville boys cross country team has demonstrated that it has both talent and depth to match up against most of its traditional rivals.
This makes the Bees one of the favorites as the 69th edition of the Baldwinsville Invitational gets set to take place this Saturday, with hundreds of runners to compete in the grounds surrounding Durgee Junior High School.
B’ville was quite impressive last Wednesday in its league opener against Cicero-North Syracuse, easily putting away the Northstars18-43 while also getting a 15-50 win over Nottingham.
Fresh off his second-place finish at the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Invitational Sept. 10, Solomon Holden-Betts had the quickest race here, finishing in 17 minutes, 52.1 seconds.
Holden-Betts beat out the 17:54.2 from Ryan Quinn, with C-NS’s Ashton Murdock third in 18:01.4 before Jeff Ragonese, in 18:10.9, led a group that included Ryan Wilson (18:12.8) and Jack McAllister (18:14:8). Adam Kozman, in 18:26, beat out Owen Weaver (18:27) for eighth place.
On the girls side, B’ville ended up with a split of its three-team meet, defeating Nottingham 16-47, but taking a 17-44 loss to C-NS.
Sophia Cavalieri led the Bees, her time of 21:31 putting her in fourth place as C-NS star Kate Putman tore to victory in 18:54 and Gabby Putman edged Marissa Navarra for second, both posting 20:13. Margaret Solomon, finishing seventh in 22:07, had B’ville’s only other top-10 finish.
Some of B’ville’s boys runners went to last Saturday’s Jordan-Elbridge Invitational, where it finished second to Hannibal in the team standings. Noah Covert finished seventh in 19:52.9, with Lucas Clay (20:39.5) beat out Nathan Glidden (20:50.5) and Graham Jackson (20:53.0), all of them near the top 10.
