AUBURN – It did not take long for Baldwinsville girls swimming sophomore Eva Smith to continue altering the record books wherever she competed.
Smith put up the quickest 200-yard individual medley time of the young Section III season in the course of the Bees’ 103-62 victory over Auburn in Wednesday’s 2021 season opener.
Also, by posting two minutes, 13.65 seconds, Smith set an Auburn pool record for that event, to go with her top time of 1:03.31 in the 100 butterfly.
To start the meet, B’ville’s 200 medley relay quartet of Smith, Makenna Williams, Ashley Konz and Mia Rinko earned first place in 2:07.08.
Konz went from there to taking the 50 freestyle in 27.06 seconds and posting the fastest 100 backstroke time of 1:04.53 while Rinko, second in the 50 freestyle (29.05), would prevail in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.82.
Erin Gruppe (2:27.65) and Henna Luke (2:30.71) finished 1-2 in the 200 freestyle as Williams, in 1:29 flat, edged Auburn’s Magdeline Hill (1:30.51) in the 100 breaststroke.
B’ville is home twice next week, for meets Tuesday against Skaneateles and Thursday against Oswego.
