BALDWINSVILLE – With a string of late-season victories, the Baldwinsville girls golf team took a lot of momentum into Tuesday’s Section III championships at Kanon Valley.
Yet it nearly got a whole lot more last Tuesday when it challenged undefeated Liverpool at Timber Banks and fell just a few strokes short of ending the Warriors’ dreams for an undefeated season in a 177-180 loss.
When they had met May 5 at Hickory Hills, Liverpool claimed it by a comfortable 147-162 margin, but on the longer Timber Banks layout the Warriors leaned even more on the duo of Nataly and Mia Avotins.
Over nine holes, Nataly Avotins earned a two-under-par 34, while Mia Avotins nearly matched par with her 37.
Each of them were ahead of B’ville’s top three golfers as Margaret Dec put up a 40, Colleen Vredenburg shot a 43 and Cara Vredenburg finished with a 44.
It took Ella Foriero shooting a 52 and Jewel Daniels shooting a 54 to help the Warriors hold off the Bees, who had a 53 from Jessica Bylinsky.
After this, the Bees faced Cicero-North Syracuse Green last Friday afternoon at Northern Pines and, again, had an impressive team effort, defeating the Northstars 191-222.
Dec led all individuals., shooting a 41 as Cara Vredenburg took second place with a 48 and Colleen Vredenburg finished with a 49.
All were ahead of C-NS Green’s top round of 51 from Andrew Wheaton, with Rebecca Mantione’s 53 clinching it for the Bees ahead of the Northstars’ Ashley Evans (56), Julia Donovan (57) and Mya Ashkar (58).
