CENTRAL NEW YORK – Against both its neighbors and its closest pursuers in the SCAC Empire division, the Jamesville-DeWitt boys tennis team remained unstoppable.
It started last Tuesday with the Red Rams sweeping East Syracuse Minoa and, two days later, continued in a first-place league clash where J-D beat the Central Square Redhawks by that same margin.
Both teams came into the match between J-D and Central Square with 6-0 marks, but it didn’t take long for the Rams to move out in front.
Essex Glowaki swept past Ethan Westall 6-0, 6-0 in first singles, with Cooper Werner handling Owen Peck 6-1, 6-1. Though he took a bit longer, Mark Bratslavsky won 6-4, 6-0 over Kevin Kershner.
On the doubles side, Mike Bratslavsky and Luke Cantone got a 6-1, 6-0 win over Brady Godici and Ryan McAfee, with William Parratt and Aiden Usher beating Aiden Howard and Micky Schlapp by those same scores.
Ryan Collins and William Sharlow paired up to beat Brennan Smith and Ethan Wells 6-1, 6-1, and in another 6-1, 6-1 match Shreyank Bhatt and Carson Souser handled Vince Bardoun and Shaun Saunders.
When J-D beat ESM 7-0, Glowaki setting the tone as he beat Jack Satterlee 6-1, 6-0, with Mark Bratslavsky handling Josh Spilka 6-0, 6-1 and Werner claiming a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Noah Satterlee.
Of the four doubles matches, it was the same. Cantone and Mark Bratslavsky won, as did Collins and Nathan Chen, with none of the teams, which included Parratt-Usher and Bhatt-Souser, lost more than two games in any set they played.
Then, after it beat Central Square, J-D pulled off its eighth straight 7-0 shutout on Friday, this one over Fulton.
Collins and Sharlow went through the closest of the doubles matches, toppling Reid Devendorf and Elijah Turner 6-2, 7-5. Neither Glowaki nor Mark Bratslavsky gave up a game in their two contested singles matches, nor did the doubles teams of Parratt-Usher and Bhatt-Souser.
After it lost to J-D, ESM then played two matches on Thursday, against Cortland and Fulton, and managed to win both of those matches by the same 4-3 margin
It helped that the Purple Tigers forfeited all of the doubles matches, giving points to the teams of Krish Patel-Donovan Randall, Rijad Muhic-Jack Satterlee and Carter Jacobs-Ari Oviedo, but a singles point was still needed – and Noah Satterlee got it, handling Mike Guido 10-3.
Against Fulton, full matches were played, and Noah Satterlee topped Reid Devendorf 6-0, 6-3 as Jack Satterlee, gaining the decisive point in a third-set tie-breaker, edged Kieran O’Hanlon 6-7, 6-0, 7-6. Also in three sets, Muhic paired with Jayce Domres to beat Shawn Cornell and Riley Thompson 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
