ONONDAGA COUNTY – When the Liverpool girls golf team got a landmark victory at Green Lakes against defending league champion Fayetteville-Manlius on the last day of April, it sprang the Warriors to the top of the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division standings.
That 119-124 win by the Warriors over the Hornets not only featured the Avotins sisters, but the contributions of Ella Foriero, who shot a 33, and Adrianna Shaw, whose 36 provided the clinching score.
Liverpool’s success continued last Tuesday afternoon when the Warriors overwhelmed Cicero-North Syracuse’s Green team in a 148-205 decision at Hickory Hills.
As they have constantly done, the Avotins sisters led the way for Liverpool as Nataly Avotins posted a 31 and Mia Avotins finished with a 32 for the low two individual rounds.
Jewel Daniels, shooting a 39, and Shaw, posting a 46, completed a top-four Warriors sweep as C-NS Green got 48s from Josephine Gabriell and Mackenzie Wessels, with Ashley Evans getting a 52 and Mirella Borte adding a 57.
Then Liverpool defeated Baldwinsville 147-162 at Hickory Hills on Wednesday with a 30 from Mia Avotins and a 33 from Nataly Avotins ahead of the 37s from the Bees’ Margaret Dec and Colleen Vredenburg Daniels, with a 40, and Foriero, with a 44, claimed the fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
A day earlier, C-NS Blue hosted West Genesee at Northern Pines and held off the Wildcats 147-150, led by Isabella Borte, who shot a 34.
Jessica Ricciardi was close behind, posting a 35, while Natalie Hacker’s 38 tied the score of WG’s Maria Bove and Emilee Solak chimed in by shooting a 43.
C-NS Green lost 124-166 to F-M Green on Wednesday at Green Lakes. Evans led with a 39 ahead of Wessels (40), Julia Donovan (42) and Mya Ashkar (44), but the Hornets swept the top four, led by a 24 from Lucy Fowler.
A day later, Green had its own match with Baldwinsville, taking a 195-270 defeat. Wessels shot a 63, but five Bees golfers topped that total, led by matching 46s from Dec, Colleen Vredenburg and Cara Vredenburg.
The week concluded with C-NS Blue offering its own challenge to F-M Green, only here the Hornets got the best of it in a 140-150 decision.
Ricciardi and Solak both shot 35, beating everyone except Fowler, who blazed to a 29. Hacker and Isabella Borte had matching totals of 40 as the Hornets got their own 35s from Michaela Papa and Alana Isley and a 41 from Ava Abruzzese.
