ONONDAGA COUNTY – Over the course of the first two weeks of its season, the Baldwinsville girls golf team saw a handful of matches pushed back by wet weather.
However, the Bees were able to challenge both of the Fayetteville-Manlius sides last Monday at Green Lakes, where with a score of 203 it beat F-M White’s 232, but was behind F-M Green’s 195.
For the most part, B’ville’s roster matched F-M Green. Only at the top was there a clear margin, as the Hornets’ Lucy Fowler, with a nine-hole 38, was eight shots ahead of the 46s from the Bees’ Colleen Vredenburg and Cara Vredenburg.
Margaret Dec, shooting a 49, took fourth place among individuals, with Jessica Bilynsky earning a 59. Katie Naprawa had a 61 and Alexa ndra Cavino contributed a 63.
Then B’ville went up against first-place Liverpool last Wednesday at Hickory Hills, the Warriors’ new home course, where the Bees took a 147-162 defeat.
Dec and Colleen Vredenburg shot 37, tying for third place behind Liverpool’s star sister tandem of Mia Avotins (30) and Nataly Avotins (33), while Cara Vredenburg and Gloria Metallo both shot 44. Bylinsky, with a 47, beat out Naprawa’s total of 48.
Warmer, drier conditions on Thursday greeted B’ville for its match against Cicero-North Syracuse Green, and the Bees responded with a resounding 195-270 victory over the Northstars.
Sweeping the top five, B’ville was led by Dec and the Vredenburg sisters, each of whom posted matching scores of 46. Naprawa was fourth with a 57, while Bilynsky finished with a 62.
