SYRACUSE – The long wait for high school spring sports to return included outdoor track and field, and when it finally did start again, Baldwinsville was quiet ready.
Each of the Bees’ sides registered one-sided victories over Henninger in Wednesday’s opener at Sunnycrest Field, prevailing 114-19 in the girls meet and 107-33 over the Black Knights in the boys meet.
Sophia Cavalieri won twice for the B’ville girls, going 2:54.16 in the 800-meter run and 6:08 in the 1,500 meters to edge the 6:12 from Vivian Holden-Betts. Lily Horan ran 3,000 meters in 13:51.23. Ella Smith went 1:21.3 in the 400 hurdles and also was first in the long jump, going 13 feet 9 ½ inches as Nela Loftin (29’4”) took the triple jump.
Rachel Pawelek went 13.8 seconds to take the 100-meter dash as Erin Gregoire was victorious in the 100 hurdles. Maddie Diep cleared 4’6” in the high jump, with Kate Mitts throwing the discus 61’2 1/2” and Laura Sholon earning a first-place shot put toss of 25’7”.
Ava Davis, Maddie Kennedy, Adriana Orlando and Brianna Grosso ran the 4×400 relay in 4:50.9 as Davis, Diep, Pawelek and Natalie Bartkowiak took the 4×100 in 57.02 seconds.
Moving to the boys meet, B’ville featured Kaleb Paul going 11.8 seconds in the 100. Tom Bernardin had a quick time of 15.26 seconds in the 110 high hurdles and Owen Weaver went 21’2” to win the long jump.
Connor Waldron tore through the 400 sprint in 52.3 seconds ahead of Logan Hayes (55.7) as James Cary ran the 800 in 2:11.5 to edge Jack McAllister’s 2:11.9. Jeff Ragonese was first in the 1,600 in 5:07.5 as Colin Delaney, Tom Hagopian, Aidan Micho and Adam Kozman went 9:42.6 in the 4×800.
David Dobrolowski, throwing the shot put 37’4”, was just ahead of Dylan Barber’s 36’11” as Luke DeFio took the 400 hurdles in 1:03 flat and Brandon Levin was first in the 200 in 24.1 seconds.
All this serves as a warm-up for the first big test of the season Wednesday afternoon at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium when B’ville confronts Fayetteville-Manlius.
