CENTRAL NEW YORK – As it heads toward an uncertain off-season not knowing whether Joe Sindoni will be maintained as head coach, the Skaneateles football team can go there at least with the satisfaction of knowing it did not lose a game this spring.
In a second Lakers clash in four weeks, Skaneateles went to Buckley-Volo Field last Wednesday and earned a 21-7 victory over Cazenovia.
Only a fourth-quarter touchdown by the host Lakers prevented Sknaetaeles from another shutout similar to the 18-0 decision it put together the first time these sides met on March 31.
All told, Skaneateles gained 389 total yards, more than double Cazenovia’s total of 162, and balanced it out, too, with Grayson Brunelle carrying the ball 34 times for 185 yards and a fourth-quarter 20-yard TD run.
James Musso completed 11 of 18 passes for 151 yards and ran 41 yards for the game’s first points in the first quarter. Cody Nesbitt, who had a four-yard TD run, caught three passes for 54 yards as Patrick Herr had four receptions for 69 yards. Landon Hellwig was three-for-three on extra points.
Cazenovia was led by A.J. Rothfeld, who not only scored his team’s lone TD, but also recorded 17 tackles and 11 assists.
That same Wednesday night, Bishop Ludden faced Solvay and the Gaelic Knights, finishing its season at 3-1, put away the Bearcats 34-14.
Ludden’s Jarin Beauford returned the opening kickoff 81 yards for six points, answered later in the first quarter when Solvay’s Carter Lee scored on a 28-yard run and Ty Martineau added the extra point.
During the second period, they traded TD’s again, Nazier Kinsey’s six-yard run and Steve Tussing’s two-point conversion answered by Zach Bowen’s two-yard plunge that tied the game 14-14.
But when Kinsey scored again from one yard out just before halftime, the Gaelic Knights took a 21-14 lead and never got caught, its defense stifling the Bearcats throughout the second half.
Kinsey and Willie Jennings both converted on short TD runs to help Ludden pull clear. Overall, Kinsey completed nine of 12 passes for 115 yards and ran nine times for 45 yards, while matching teammate Kenyon King in recording a team-best five tackles.
