Rain settled in early last week and lingered for three days, greatly interrupting the schedule for the area’s high school girls tennis teams.
Not until Thursday did it dry up, and it wasn’t until Friday that Fayetteville-Manlius was able to sneak in a match, but the Hornets remained undefeated, blanking the Liverpool Warriors 6-0.
Trisha Adaivkolanu’s 6-0, 6-0 romp over Kailee Mills highlighted the singles matches, where Anna Manta handled Angelica Underwood 6-1, 6-2 and Phoebe Wang worked hard to beat Gabby Underwood 6-3, 7-5.
To maintain the shutout, F-M’s doubles teams of Sarah Brien and Madison Chamberlain had to rally to beat Kelly Geiwitz and Ashleigh Rosen 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Elsewhere in doubles, Alexis Ahn and Angela Iskander routed Maiya Fitzgibbons and Amira Sahilovic 6-0, 6-0, with Samhitha Adavikolanu and Emma Zogg toppling Meghan Bell and Olivia Magnarelli 6-0, 6-2.
That same day, Christian Brothers Academy carried a 6-1 record into its showdown with 5-0 Skaneateles, and got within a couple of games of victory, but could not topple the Lakers in a 4-3 defeat.
Two points were easily attained in singles, where Gieselle Vlassis blanked Kenna Ellis 8-0 and Julia DelPino romped past Lily Miller 8-1, but Allie Mancini lost 8-5 to Isabelle Soderberg.
Annie Kilmartin and Isabella Mead won 8-6 in doubles over Alice Spaulding and Sophia Soderberg, but in the pivotal first doubles match Aubrey Mills and Grace Catalano lost to Ella Danforth and Emma Miller 9-7.
A day earlier, Manlius-Pebble Hill squared off against Cazenovia and was even in the contested matches, but had to forfeit a point in singles and lost 4-3 to the Lakers.
On the singles side, the Trojans had Amitees Fazeli handle Nova Berger 8-1 as Genevieve Morrow held off Clare Douglas 8-6. The forfeit meant that MPH had to win two points in doubles.
But it only got one, from Parmees Fazeli and Caroline Mezzalingua, who beat Julia Knutsen and Nina Royer 8-2. Ava Benedict and Fariel Migeed lost, 8-4, to May Sayre and Emma Schwartz.
East Syracuse Minoa played Friday against Auburn, only managing a single point as it lost to the Maroons 6-1 as Alana Day and Katie Schmidt put the Spartans on the board, beating Rosalia Bartolotta and Erin Calkins 6-3, 7-6.
The Spartans’ teams of Rhiannon Axtmann-Tierrah Bauer, Angelina Baxter-Neveah Harris and Meghan Filmer-Hannah Kowanes each lost in two sets.
Lizzy Phillips, in singles, lost to the Maroons’ Clare Diffin 7-5, 6-2, with Caitlin Abbott falling to Alexandra Vitale 6-4, 6-2. Bella Sylvester had a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Ella Bouley.
Bishop Grimes had a 5-2 defeat to Cazenovia on Saturday, both points coming in singles, where Sarah Falgiatano beat Douglas 10-7 and Sofia Ziankoski handled Baylee Pierce 10-5. Isabella Kinsey took a 10-8 loss to Sayre.
