It proved another successful home meet for the Cazenovia boys cross country team as it turned back the Bishop Grimes Cobras 18-43 last Wednesday at the Sean Googin Sports Complex.
Though once again an individual champion, the Lakesr’ Jared Smith was pushed hard by Quinn Smith, with Smith crossing the line in 17 minutes, 53 seconds and Smith second in 18:18.
Behind them, Aidan Coffey gave Cazenovia a fourth-place clocking of 19:28, nearly a full minute ahead of Killian Bloun, who was fifth in 20:27, edging out Garrett Lounsbury (20:30) for that spot.
Another group of Lakers runners featured Erich Ormans getting to eighth place in 21:22, while Carter Ruddy finished ninth in 21:42 and Sean Smithers (22:01) followed.
On Saturday, Chittenango made the short trip to East Syracuse Minoa, where the girls Bears got close in a 26-32 defeat to the Spartans.
Ultimately, ESM’s top-three sweep, led by Elena Vespi, who won in 22:08, overcame Chittenango’s superior depth, McKayla Capeling finishing fourth in 22:54 as Piper Beckwith was fifth in 23:08 and Laura Powers sixth in 23:24.
Another group of Bears included Kiara Waite, who got to eighth place in 23:25 ahead of the 25:56 from Bailee Burton and 26:08 from Carlie Madonna.
Chittenango’s Caleb LeBlanc won the boys race in 18:50 over ESM’s Logan Michaels (19:07), but the Spartans still won 20-40, claiming six straight placements.
Tristam LaFountaine broke up ESM’s streak, getting to eighth place in 20:40. Wesley Tedford finished in 21:22, edging Alex Brummer (21:23) as Sam Glazier finished in 21:48.
