Once more, the neighborhood rivalry between Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse renewed itself, this time in girls tennis.
Clashing on a chilly Friday afternoon, the Warriors, aided by wins in all three of the singles matches, turned back the Northstars 5-2.
Playing a single set to 10 games, Angelica Underwood beat Eve Campolieto 10-2, with Gabby Underwood handling Autumn Brown 10-1 and Meghan Bell topping Abigail Bustin by that same score.
C-NS earned both of its points in doubles, where Krista Feeney and Cambrie Hubbard beat Diana Kozenyatko and Olivia Magnarelli 10-6 as Golden Duru and Brooke Ten Brink won 10-5 over Emma Mautro and Amira Sahilovic.
Countering with two doubles points of its own, Liverpool had Maiya Fitzgibbons and Chien Ying Lee win 10-4 over Jenna Mills and Karly Williams. Kelly Geiwitz and Ashleigh Rosen turned back Megan Johnston and Angel Luangaphay in a 10-6 decision.
It took until it had a non-league match with Bishop Grimes last Monday that C-NS finally got into the win colum, the Northstars handling the Cobras 6-1.
Feeney, in first singles, beat Sarah Falgiatano 7-5, 6-1, which made up for Luangaphay’s 6-1, 7-5 defeat to Sofia Ziankoski as Williams handled Isabelle Kinsey 6-0, 6-2.
In the closest of the four doubles matches, Mills and Laura Fehrmann got past Juila Avery and Deddeh Fasama 6-4, 6-2.
Otherwise, the teams of Brown-Hibbard, Campolieto-Ten Brink and Duru-Johnston dropped just five games in six combined sets.
Two days later, C-NS faced Auburn, and despite a pair of singles points, the Northstars still fell 4-3 to the Maroons.
To support Feeney’s 6-4, 6-3 win over Alexandra Vitale, Hibbard handled Claire Diffin 6-1, 6-2 as, in doubles, Brown and Campitello paired up to rally past Abigail Carr and Emma Merkley in a 3-6, 7-6, 11-9 epic.
But Auburn took three of the four doubles points, all of them in straight sets, to go with Bustin, in third singles, falling to Ella Bouley 6-2, 6-2.
As that went on, Liverpool claimed a couple of points in its match against Baldwinsville, yet fell 4-2 to the Bees.
In three sets, Gabby Underwood outlasted Paige Tromblee 6-2, 2-6, 10-7, while Magnarelli and Angelica Underwood paired up to win 7-5, 6-4 over Reagan Doan and Hannah Gould.
Of the four other matches, the closest came in first singles, with Kozenyatko pushing B’ville’s Brooke Tutor in both sets, yet losing 7-5, 6-4.
More points were earned in Thursday’s match against West Genesee, but the Warriors again lost, this time in a 5-2 decision.
Kozenyatko, now paired with Magnarelli, handled Ava Amodio and Kayla Latone 6-0, 6-1, with Geiwitz and Rosen beating Sarah Bacon and Annalyse Kittell 6-1, 6-2.
WG won all three of the singles points, including competitive matches where Gabby Underwood fell to Angelina Llanos 7-5, 6-2, and Angelica Underwood had a 6-2, 6-4 defeat to Katie Viau.
