For the second consecutive Saturday, cross country teams from Fayetteville-Manlius enjoyed convincing victories over a long-time league rival.
In this case, the Hornets took apart West Genesee, its 15-49 victory on the girls side including another sensational run from Hannah Kaercher as her time of 19 minutes, 16 seconds was a full minute better than Amelia Amack’s 20:16.
Grace Kaercher finished third, in 20:24, while Ari Syderowych was fourth in 20:27. Izzy Sullivan, in 20:36, completed a top-five sweep as Lejla Borcilo (21:05), Ava Beecher (21:32), Maria Khalifeh (21:41) and Emma Levy (22:09) followed.
The boys race had F-M prevailing 19-44 and, individually, Peyton Geehrer pulling away from WG’s Matt Bartolotta, Geehrer finishing in 15:49 to Bartolotta’s second-place 16:39.
Daniel Patrick gained third place in 16:44, with Trevor Krukin fifth in 17:59. Nolan McGinn, sixth in 18:25, led a pack that included Kyler Patrick (18:53), David George (18:59), Jackson Burton (19:26) and Mason Weires (19:50).
As this went on, Jamesville-DeWitt confronted Central Square, where the girls Red Rams overcame a fast start from the Redhawks and won a 26-31 decision.
Madeline Foss, in 21:43, trailed Central Square’s duo of Juila Mann (20:40) and Jillian Howe (20:58), yet led a formidable J-D pack.
Megan O’Malley, in 23:26, edged Nicky Militi (23:29) for fourth place, with Miriam Zoghby posting 23:42 and Natalie Montalito posting 23:50. Jillian Kandas, in 24:12, was ahead of Cora Gilbert (24:15), Anna Smith (24:26) and Molly McIntyre (25:14).
J-D’s boys beat Central Square 23-36 as, up front, it was close between the Rams’ Connor Clarkson and the Redhawks’ Jonathan Clarke, but Clarkson won in 18:52 by three seconds.
James Hillers was fourth in 19:29 and Anthony Cawley fifth in19:45, but J-D didn’t pull clear until Jacob Cottet, in 19:59, led a back that included Collin Revercomb, in 20:11, Nathan Bourcy (20:18) and Nick Leo (20:22).
East Syracuse Minoa followed its busy opening stretch by hosting Liverpool and Oswego last Wednesday, and while the Warriors swept the meet, the Spartans won 24-31 over the Buccaneers on the girls side.
Mary Roach led the ESM girls, posting a time of 21:22. Elena Vespi finished in 22:18, with Rachael Ladd getting a time of 24:10 and Ainsley McKenna finishing in 24:30.
Moving to the boys meet, Oswego overpowered ESM 21-35 and Liverpool prevailed 21-37, the Warriors led by Ryan Hagan’s quick time of 16:43 and the Bucs getting a top time of Jason Purtell, who posted an 18:14.
John Courcy led the Spartans, finishing in 19;44, nearly a minute ahead of Paul Engineri’s 20:37. Aidan O’Brien finished in 21:03 ahead of Jon Podroso-Garcia (21:25), Jack Tumulty (23:27), Austin Gott (23:45) and Dan Tovar, who posted 24:27.
Both Christian Brothers Academy and Bishop Grimes would visit Cazenovia last Wednesday afternoon, and on the girls side CBA pulled off a sweep, topping the Lakers 21-33 and the Brothers 15-50.
Bella Cannizzo won the individual race, her time of 20:45 comfortably ahead of the 21:27 from Kayla Newman. Annie Toole made her way to fourth place in 21:57 as Mary Sullivan gained sixth place in 22:50.
Over in the boys meet, CBA got close to Cazenovia as Michael McMahon, in a time of 16:33, was second to Cazenovaia’s Jared Smith (15:52), with Cooper Groat third in 17:56 and Joe McMahon fourth in 18:08.
