An unprecedented season of success for both of the Solvay bowling teams would cap off with their efforts in Section III tournaments over the course of two long Sundays.
The girls Bearcats would go first, battilng for sectional honors Sunday at Liverpool’s Flamingo Bowl, where it would finish fourth in Division II and fifth among Class B squads.
In the morning session, Solvay had team scores of 729, 672 and 685. After a 693 in the fourth game, the Bearcats had its best showing with a fourth-game 814 before finishing with a 710 for a total pinfall of 4,303.
Cailtin McCann was the top Solvay individual with an 891 series and high game of 184. Abigail Lee was close behind, her 172 part of an 884 series as Elien Kiyyasia had 783 over five games and Rylie Dwyer had a five-game total of 727.
As the Solvay boys await to go to its sectional tournament this Sunday at Utica’s Pin-O-Rama, it could look back on finishing runner-up to Homer in the Onondaga High School League standings.
The Bearcats went to 10-2 by sweeping Weedsport 7-0 last Tuesday at Strike-N-Spare Lanes, with Ethan Bigelow earning games of 207 and 195 at the end of his 538 set.
Russ Tarbell shot a 190 to close a 509 series, while Ed Matysuk finished with 177 and 188 in his 492 series. Alex Gallardo had a 473 series and Carter Lee’s 173 game was part of a 440 set.
Solvay’s girls beat Weedsport 7-0 last Tuesday to also improve to 10-2 overall, second in the OHSL behind Christian Brothers Academy’s 11-1 mark.
Anastasia LaFlair only bowled two games, but that included a 195 and 154. McCann closed with a 169, while Elien had a 147 game and Michalena Raymond a 131 game.
West Genesee honored its senior bowlers prior to last Tuesday’s match against Cicero-North Syracuse at Solvay Recreation Alleys.
In the boys match, which the Wildcats dropped 3-0 to the Northstars, Connor Mathewson had a final game of 202 in his 524 series, ahead of the 485 set from Richard Wituszynski.
Jack Patch had a season-best 170 games, Deano Procopio shot a 168 games and Matt Halko had a 161 game. For the Northstars, J.J. O’Connell led with a three-game total of 572.
On the girls side, WG lost 3-0 to C-NS, with Rebecca Wituszynski shooting a 427 series and high game of 166. Lorelai Leskoske had a 411 set and Gabbie Gardner a 384 series as Jessaia McGriff (475 series) and Kathryn Artz (472 series) set the pace for the Northstars.
WG’s bowlers met Syracuse on Thursday and won a 3-0 boys match, led by Wituszynski, who got a 243 game to close out a 587 series as Bobby Bidwell earned games of 174 and 181.
The girls Wildcats lost 2-1 to Syracuse, though Gardner had a 419 series with a 162 opening game and Leskoske closed with a 163 in her 416 set.
