The most important portion of its regular season awaits the Baldwinsville wrestling team as it would confront Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse early this week with the SCAC Metro division regular-season title at stake.
Before all this, the Bees had two different contests, starting last Wednesday with a non-league match against Jordan-Elbridge that resulted in a comfortable 62-12 win over the Eagles.
Only twice did B’ville take defeats, and Korbin Haney got his team on the board at 285 pounds with a pin over Ryan Rivenburgh at the end of the first period as Jarred McMonagle (99 pounds) pinned Madyn LaFleur in 68 seconds.
Following a forfeit to Keagan Hayes at 106 pounds, Aidan Cali, at 113 pounds, topped Bryan Tanner 12-6. Mason Clark (120 pounds) won 5-2 over Christian Mathews and Max Naples (126 pounds) claimed a 6-4 classic over Nolan Jackson.
It continued at 132 pounds with Brandon Levin’s 18-8 win over Cameron Prior and then three consecutive pins by Jaden Prince (138 pounds), Liam Fitzgerald (145 pounds) and Ryan Hemund (152 pounds), Prince only taking 83 seconds to finish off Gauge Parker.
Later in the meet, Connor Kral (160 pounds) won 8-2 over Zach Hill and Mike Kral (182 pounds) got past Cameron Newhook 11-3, with a forfeit to Fred Pickard at 195 pounds.
B’ville then had a busy and productive weekend, first taking part in last Friday’s Ackley Duals at Oswego, made up from a Jan. 18 weather postponement,
To defeat the host Oswego Buccaneers 42-39, the Bees needed pins from Cali, Clark, Naples, Haney and Prince, plus forfeits to McMonagle and Brayden Bullis at 126 pounds.
But B’ville ran into Fulton and lost 66-17, this despite McMonagle’s 35-second pin over Fred Pagan and Haney pinning Jon Bell in 80 seconds as Cali got a 20-5 technical fall over Jack Phillips.
B’ville also fell to Homer 46-36, with Hemund joining Haney, McMonagle, Cali and Clark in earning pins, the quickest coming from Cali as he finished off the Trojans’ Jeff Stauber in 40 seconds.
A head-to-head match between the Bees and Phoenix followed on Saturday afternoon, and it was the Firebirds prevailing 51-35 over B’ville, claiming seven of the 11 contested bouts on the card.
Cali still routed Josh Carter in a 19-3 technical fall as Prince pinned Jeff Horner early in the second period. Kral took 3:14 to pin Dylan Tack and Haney remained in good form with his third-period pin over Keaton Renfrew.
