Victories by Colin Delaney on the boys side and Lauren Addario on the girls side were a key part of the Baldwinsville indoor track and field team’s appearance at last Friday’s Central New York “Higher, Farther, Faster” Invitational at Utica College’s Hutton Dome.
In the seeded portion of the boys 3,200-meter run, Delaney worked his way to a time of nine minutes, 50.06 seconds, beating out Liverpool’s Jake McGowan (9:51.75) as his teammate, Jack Michaels, finished third in 9:55.58.
Addario also beat local competition in the girls triple jump. By going 37 feet 6 1/2 inches, she finished nearly half a foot ahead of Cicero-North Syracuse’s Brooke Blaisdell, who was second with 37′ 1/2″.
Overall, the boys Bees tied Guilderland (Section II) for sixth place with 37 points, with Connor Waldron getting to third place in the 600-meter run in 1:25 flat. Delaney, Michaels, Owen Weaver and James Cary were fifth in the 4×800 relay in 8:33.25.
Sam Mellinger was fifth in the 300-meter dash in 37.55 seconds and was eighth in the 55-meter dash in 6.84 seconds after qualifying second for the final in 6.74 seconds. Alex Boak was eighth in the weight throw with 49 feet as Weaver finished 10th in the high jump, clearing 5’8″.
The B’ville girls finished with 33 points to take sixth place as Allyson Surowick, with a long jump of 16’7 1/4″, made her way to third place.
Addario, Surowick, Karen Ekure and Courtney Bostic were sixth in the 4×200 relay in 1:52.78 as Addario was fifth (7.50 seconds) and Ekure sixth (7.52) in the 55-meter dash, Ekure also clearing 5 feet to finish fifth in the high jump.
