Though it had already put together plenty of fine scores on the way to a 4-0 start, the Liverpool boys bowling team had missed reaching perfection in any single game.
Or at least that was the case until Josh Winzens found it in the midst of the Warriors’ 3-0 victory over Central Square on Thursday afternoon at Green Acres Lanes.
In his first game against the Redhawks, Winzens threw 12 shots that all found the pocket for strikes, a 300 game, the first by anyone in Section III this season.
Not having a letdown, Winzens followed with games of 237 and 224 to post a 761 series, but his was far from the only great total Liverpool up against the Redhawks, who entered the match 7-1.
Devin Roberson neared perfection with a 279 in his second game, followed up with a 256 and had a 707 series. Deacon Roberson’s 264 game capped off a 666 set as Zak Ormsby started with a 247 in his 648 series and Brandon Davis contributed a 586 series.
Central Square had some fine scores, too, whether it was Dimitri Queior putting together a steady 671 series (high game 237) or a 621 series from Jayden Allen as Kevin Radziseski had a three-game total of 585.
As this went on, the Liverpool girls bowling team also swept Central Square 3-0, led by Ashley Hardy, who threw 10 strikes in her opening-game 279 and added games of 211 and 194 on her way to a 684 series.
Before this, Liverpool got another sweep against Oswego on Tuesday afternoon at Flamingo Bowl.
The boys Warriors topped the Buccaneers 3-0, with Dylan Robersonat the forefront for Liverpool, shooting games of 235, 211 and 237 as part of a 683 series.
Ormsby was consistent, too, with every game 203 or better on his way to a 649 series. Davis shot a 606 series (212 high game) as Winzens started with a 232 during his 596 set. Oswego’s Eric Carson led his side with games of 248 and 258 to start a 665 series as Kyle Rice got a 601 set.
By that same 3-0 margin, the Liverpool girls prevailed over Oswego to move to 3-1 on the season, led by Mackenzie Gill, who shot a 598 series that included a high game of 236, plus a 196.
Makenzie Ormsby earned a 208 game to start a 554 series, while Dominique Cimini started with a 197 and finished with a 200 on her way to a 537 series. McKenna Cleary paced the Bucs with a three-game total of 514.
And after Winzens’ 300 game against Central Square, he bowled well again as both Liverpool teams swept Cortland 3-0 two days before Christmas.
Winzenshad a 662 series with games of 231 and 237, which Ormsby topped by shooting a 675 series capped by a 245 game. Davis tacked on a 595 series which included a 235 opener.
Cortland’s girls were 6-1 going into the match, but Liverpool handled them with Gill shooting games of 235 and 234 on her way to a 639 series.Hardy was steady with a 578 series that included a 207 high game. Nadia Cimini added a 454 series
Before all this, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls bowlers defeated East Syracuse Minoa 3-0 at Strike-N-Spare Lanes, a facility they both use as their home venue, to improve its mark to 4-1.
Katie Cloonan led the Northstars with a 544 series that closed with a 198 game. Jessaia McGriff shot a 519 series, with Marissa Leone getting a 192 at the end of her 477 set at ESM’s America Carhart led all individuals with a 604 series.
The C-NS boys lost 2-1 to ESM, even though Tyler Dottolo shot games of 222, 223 and 226 on his way to a 671 series as J.J. O’Connell started with a 246 in his 638 series.
Kyle Patterson, with a 598 series that started with a 239, and Landon Spingler, with a 550 series, also bowled well. The Spartans got a 692 series (258 high game) from Chris Bayly and a 594 series from Tyler Talarico, helped by Brett Smith’s 589 set and Ryan Buffum’s 569 series.
