All of the work of the fall for the Baldwinsville girls gymnastics team would boil down to how they fared during Friday’s Section III championships at Valley Gymnastics.
And the Bees would have Maddie Brooks earn a spot in next February’s state championship meet, largely based on her score of 9.25 on the vault in the Level I competition for top gymnasts.
Brooks finished fifth in the vault, while New Hartford’s Miranda Smith won with a 9.8. Smith added a 9.75 on uneven bars, a 9.65 on balance beam and a 9.625 on floor exercise to win the all-around title with 38.825, more than a point and a half ahead of the field.
Moving to Level II at the sectional meet, B’ville’s Kaye Lawton finished fifth on the floor with an 8.65 routine, while Lauren Millard’s 8.7 beam routine put her in sixth place.
Then, at Level III, the Bees had Lauren Addario earn 29.7 all-around points, winning the vault with 8.4 and taking second place on the beam with 7.8 while also finishing fourth on uneven bars.
Sydney McKenney was third on the vault with 8.325, while getting second place on uneven bars with 7.2 and adding a score of 8.175 on the floor.
B’ville did have one more regular-season meet last Tuesday, at Rome Free Academy, and controlled matters as it pulled away to defeat the Black Knights 125-98.
A top-three all-around sweep was led by Lawton’s 31.5 total. Lawton scored 8.0 on the vault and balance beam and added an 8.4 floor exercise routine and 7.1 on uneven bars.
Lauren McIlroy won the beam with 8.2 and the floor with 8.5, finishing with 30.4 all-around as McKenney scored 28.9, helped by an 8.0 vault and 7.0 on uneven bars.
There was a three-way tie on the vault between McKenney, Lawton and Addario at 8.0, with Maddy Passante scoring 7.9. Millard had 7.9 on both the beam and floor.
