During another busy stretch of its season, the Baldwinsville girls swim team would get a close-up look at many of the top individual performers in Central New York.
This started last Tuesday night, with the Bees at Le Moyne College taking on Christian Brothers Academy and having a trio of individual titles during a 100-75 defeat to the Brothers.
No race was better than the 100-yard backstroke, where Ashley Konz, in her specialty, beat out CBA’s Darien Tompkins. They nearly hit the finish line together, but Konz, in one minute, 3.08 seconds, edged Tompkins (1:03.19) for the top spot.
Clare Burke had finished first in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.93, with Kali Sacco prevailing in the 500 freestyle in 5:53.07 to go with a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:23.92. Konz was second in the 200 freestyle in 2:06.39.
Elsewhere for the Bees, Makenna Williams swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:34.48, with Mercedez Walker going 1:05.51 and Kate Cornell 1:08.86 in the 100 freestyle. Sacco,
Konz, Burke and Madeline Sauro swam the 200 freestyle relay in 1:50.48 as Madison Jordan joined Burke, Sacco and Sauro to swim the 400 freestyle relay in 4:02.82.
For CBA, Lauren Kelly tore to times of 2:17.99 in the 200 IM and 54.83 seconds in the 100 freestyle, while Kayla Newman, took the 200 freestyle in 1:59.95.Tompkins got a season-best 25.59 seconds in the 50 freestyle.
B’ville returned home on Thursday to face Mexico, where the Tigers prevailed 56-38, led by Alexa von Holtz, who was first in the 200 IM (2:14.90) and 100 butterfly (1:00.05).
When Konz raced against Mexico star Carolyn Zedack in the 50 freestyle, Konz prevailed, 26.81 seconds to Zedack’s 26.96, and she also was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:44.41 as Zedack won in 5:34.62.
Sauro earned an individual title, too, going 1:12.75 in the 100 backstroke to beat the 1:14.23 from Mexico’s Payge Tubolino. Sauro also paired with Konz, Sacco and Burke to prevail in the 200 medley relay in 2:07.87 and went 4:03.15 in the 400 freestyle relay.
Sacco finished second in both the 200 freestyle (2:10.65) and 100 butterfly (1:05.16), with Walker third in the 100 freestyle in 1:07.06. Taite Archer swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:26.37 as Walker, Kate Cornell, Brooklyn Roner and Emma Branigan posted a time of 2:05.13 in the 200 freestyle relay.
In its lone meet next week, B’ville hosts the Syracuse City team on Tuesday, a week before an Oct. 15 meet against Liverpool.
