Though not quite at the top of the SCAC Metro division standings, the Baldwinsville boys golf team could move toward that point if it could fare well against defending Section III Class AA champion West Genesee in back-to-back matches.
The first of these matches took place Wednesday at Westvale, and it was a close one, with strong scores on both sides, but in the end the Bees prevailed 187-191 over the Wildcats.
Billy Guild and Aidan Farmer both shot 36 for nine holes to lead B’ville. Tanner Glavin and Victor Ianno were close behind, each posting 38, while Brendan Wilcox contributed a 39. Alex Pompo and Anthony Petragnani had matching totals of 41.
Just 24 hours later, these same two teams had a rematch at Timber Banks, and it proved even more lopsided in B’ville’s favor as it turned back West Genesee 182-203.
Four Bees – Farmer, Glavin, Guild and Pompo – tied for individual honors, each shooting 36, one ahead of the Wildcats’ low round from Kevin McDermott. Then Petragnani added a 38 as Ianno and Nat McGregor both shot 40 and Wilcox contributed a 45.
B’ville already had a league win in the books from earlier in the week, handling the newly-formed Fayetteville-Manlius White team last Monday afternoon in a 188-213 decision.
Glavin’s 36 was one of five sub-40 rounds, one better than Farmer’s 37, with Petragnani and Guild each shooting 38 and Pompo adding a 39. Wilcox shot 43 as F-M White’s Andrew Ahn led his side with a 38.
In between matches against Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse Green next week, B’ville gets a second opportunity at knocking off first-place Fayetteville-Manlius Green at Timber Banks on Wednesday afternoon.
