Three area high school track and field teams were together Wednesday afternoon, competing for top honors in the OHSL Liberty Division Small School Championships.
Skaneateles had a second-place finish in the girls meet with 79 points, while host Marcellus was fourth with 62 points. Jordan-Elbridge tied for fifth there, but was third in the boys event with 76.33 points to beat out the Lakers and Mustangs.
Sweeping the sprints, Emme Conan gave Skaneateles a first-place time of 12.95 seconds in the 100-meter dash, with teammate Eva Vitsaxaki third in 13.63 seconds. Conan then won the 200-meter dash in 27.15 seconds
Vitsaxaki, Graeson Landsberg, Emme Conan and Grace Conan paired up to win the 4×100 relay, edging Cazenovia, 52.99 seconds to 53.13, while Marcellus was fourth and J-E fifth. Landsberg took second place in the 400 hurdles in 1:12.08, with Vitsaxaki fourth in the long jump, going 14 feet 6 inches.
The Lakers’ had Lillian Yengo got second place in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:39.49, with Georgia McSwain fifth in the 3,000-meter run. Reagan Evans had a fourth-place discus throw of 74’9” as Edan Howard finished sixth.
Lyda Buck finished third in the pentathlon with 1,853 points, while J-E’s Meagan Jackson (1,619) beat out Marcellus’ Amy Francesconi (1,616) for fourth place. Lauren Myers was fifth in the 100 hurdles, with Hope Cross-Jaya sixth in the 400-meter dash.
J-E’s girls won the 4×800 as Vassianna Klock, Abby Burns, Hannah Fichter and Coral Uhle went 10:22.67 to pull away from the field, with Marcellus (10:59.66) edging Skaneateles (10:59.80) for third place. The Eagles added a second-place time of 4:26.63 in the 4×400.
Klock took third place in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.85, while Uhle was third in the 800 in 2:35.06 and Fichter third in the steeplechase in 8:39.49.
Langhorn made it to fourth place in the triple jump with 30’7 ¼’ and was fifth in the 100 sprint. Tatiana Parkolap was fifth in the high jump, topping 4’6”, and sixth in the steeplechase. Mia Delap took fourth place in the 100 hurdles.
Marcellus had Sophia Shaw clear 4’8” in the high jump, just behind the 4’9” from Cazenovia’s Maddy Gavitt, Brielle McShane got second place in the 800-meter run in 2:35 flat. Violet Grieb was third in the 100 hurdles in 18:47 seconds and was fourth in the 400 hurdles.
Maggie Strempel ran to fourth place at 3,000 while Peggy Morocco was fourth in the 400 sprint and Virginia Lucchetti sixth in the 1,500-meter run. The Mustangs finished fourth in the 4×400 as Heidi Steigerwald got sixth place in the high jump.
J-E’s 4×400 relay team of Marion Quigley, Kenny Williams, Derek Quigley and Logan Kinney beat the field with a time of 3:38.90. The Eagles were also second in the 4×800 relay in 9:03.86 and second in the 4×100 in 47.03 seconds.
On his own, Quigley had a winning long jump of 20’2”as no one else broke the 20-foot mark. He also finished third in the 110 hurdles in 16.34 seconds and had a fourth-place high jump of 5’8”,
Kenny Williams needed 2:07.35 to edge Cazenovia’s Andrew Kent (2:07.37) by two-hundredths of a second and win the 800, while Kinney was third in the 200 in 24.23 seconds and Derek Quigley third in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet as Nate Williams tied for fourth and Zach Barber was fourth in the triple jump, going 37’6 ¾”.
Marcellus had Jonah Kwasnowski nearly win the pentathlon, his 2,065 points just 28 behind Hannibal’s Zach Gombas. The Mustangs finished fifth in the 4×400, the best of any of its relay sides.
Dan Balman, throwing the discus 119’4”, was second to Cazenovia’s Angelo Agnotto (129’4”), while Kyle Brown, fifth in the shot put, was third in the shot put, heaving it 39’9” as Tom Kinsella finished fifth.
Many of the Skaneateles points came from Caleb Bender’s sweep of the distance races. Bender ran the mile in 4:35.12, easily topping the field as Joe Norris was third in 4:47.70 and Matt Persampieri was fifth.
Bender then beat the field in the 3,200-meter run, going 9:57.02 as Marcellus had Nick Roseboom take third place in 10:35.80.
The Lakers’ Nicola Kunz cleared 10’6” in the pole vault to finish second and got fourth place in the 110 hurdles, with the Lakers third in the 4×400 in 3:48.04 and fourth in the 4×100.
