Without question, the 6-0 start offered up by the Baldwinsville girls lacrosse team drew some attention outside local circles.
For when the first state Class A rankings of the spring were released early last week, the Bees were sitting at no. 2, behind only Chaminade of the Catholic High School Athletic Association, who does not compete in the NYSPHSAA tournament.
And this was the backdrop as B’ville, during the April school break, went down to Tennessee for a road trip that mixed seeing sights in the Nashville area and a pair of games against local sides.
Each of those contests would result in lopsided wins, starting with B’ville taking on Franklin Regional and prevailing 21-6, with a season-best 15 goals scored in the first half alone.
Emma Gebhardt finished with four goals and two assists, Sophia Cavallaro matching her point total thanks to three goals and three assists as Katie Pascale also got three assists.
Olivia Muscolino scored twice, as did Hannah Johnson, Jenna Pastore and Sarah Klein, with Emma States adding a goal and two assists. Pascale, Madeline Czyz, Hannah Mimas, Tiffany Natoli and Cassidy Hayward got single goals, Natoli and Hayward earning one assist apiece.
Though the second game in Tennessee was a bit closer, B’ville still defeated Ensworth 16-7, and that margin was only that way because the Bees eased up after building a 12-1 advantage by halftime.
Gebhardt, with her four goals and three assists, made it 13 points for the trip, Pascale getting three goals and two assists as States notched four assists to go with her pair of goals.
Muscolino and Cavallaro also scored twice as Pastore, Johnson and Abbie Donahue had single goals. Between them, Emily DeJohn and Jordan Roy stopped 10 of 17 shots they faced.
So the Bees were now halfway through its regular season, taking a perfect 8-0 mark into Tuesday’s game at West Genesee before it faced Fayetteville-Manlius Thursday in a rematch of the 11-10 thriller the Bees won earlier this month, and then traveled to Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.
