It hasn’t taken long for the track and field teams from Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool to set themselves up at the top of the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division.
C-NS followed up an opening meet at Central Square on April 3 by going to Fayetteville-Manlius last Wednesday and gaining an impressive sweep of the Hornets.
The boys Northstars won 92-49, with Jeremiah Willis a three-time winner as the University of Louisville-bound senior went 11.6 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 24.1 seconds in the 200-meter dash before a top long jump of 20 feet 2 inches.
Nate Osborne cleared 12 feet in the pole vault, with Isaiah Wright going 38’7 ¼” in the triple jump and Andrew Culver winning the shot put with a heave of 42’5 ½”.
Wright added a 110 high hurdles title in 16.6 seconds, with Sam Nessel first in the 400-meter dash in 52.6 seconds. Willis helped C-NS’s 4×100 relay team prevail in 45.8 seconds as Nessel ran a leg for the Northstars in the 4×400 relay that finished in 3:44.8.
Moving to the girls meet, C-NS more than made up for F-M’s usual domination of the distance races and swept the field events on the way to defeating the Hornets by that exact same 92-49 margin.
Stephanie Webb set the tone with a top shot put toss of 26 feet and a top discus throw of 70’2”, while Brooke TenBrink had an impressive long jump of 16’4 ½” and Brooke Blaisdell went 34’8 ½” in the triple jump.
To cap it off, Liliana Klemanski cleared 5 feet in the high jump and Catherine Cirvelli topped 7’6” in the pole vault. Meanwhile, Savannah Kuhr and Julianna Hutt both won a pair of races.
Kuhr went 16.3 seconds in the 100 hurdles and 1:12.5 in the 400 hurdles, with Hutt getting a top time of 14 seconds in the 100 sprint and 28.2 seconds in the 200. Hutt and Blaisdell helped C-NS’s 4×100 relay team prevail in 52.7 seconds.
Liverpool hosted West Genesee and Corcoran in a girls meet that same day, with the Warriors routing the Wildcats 113.5-27.5 and handling the Cougars 124-16.
Windsor Ardner was victorious in both the 800 in 2:29.6 and the 1,500 in 5:04.2, with Jenna Schulz taking the 3,000 in 10:59.2 and helping the Warriors go 10:02.3 in the 4×800. Kali Hayes was first in the 400 hurdles in 1:14.1.
Imahni Sinclair won the discus (96’9”) and the shot put (34’4 ½”), with Amina Sinclair clearing 5 feet in the high jump. Sophia Recuparo prevailed in the pole vault as Marissa Baskin went 16’4” in the long jump and 33’5” in the triple jump.
They spread around the wealth in the sprints, Baskin and Haven Hicks both going 12.7 seconds in the 100 as Anne Gullo won the 200 in 27.1 seconds, that trio also part of the 4×100 that tore to a time of 50.5 seconds as Liverpool also won the 4×400 in 4:23.6.
Liverpool went from there to Friday’s Chittenango Relays for Hope, where it swept both the girls and boys team titles.
In the boys 3,200-meter run, the Warriors went 1-2-3 as Nick Brancato, in 10:14.94, topped Ryan Cartwright (10:29.74) and Jake McGowan (10:39.54).
Jacob Barnes, throwing the shot put 41’11”, beat a field that included Antwan Kelly in third place with 36’9”. In the girls shot put, Imahni Sinclair threw it 34’9” as no one else topped the 30-foot mark. Baskin won the long jump, going 17’9”.
The girls Warriors won the 4×100 in 51.86 seconds, nearly five seconds ahead of the field, and took the 1,600 sprint medley in 4:20.42 while also winning the distance medley relay in 13:17.40. Liverpool’s boys got its own distance medley title in 11:20.73, while also finishing second in the 4×800 in 8:40.58.
