Another season of boys bowling for teams from West Genesee and Solvay was capped by both of them appearing in Sunday’s Section III team tournaments at Utica’s Pin-O-Rama.
In Class A, the Wildcats finished eighth with a pinfall of 5,076 as Liverpool, with 6,198, held off fast-closing Utica Proctor (6,178) for the team title.
The big story for WG, though, was seeing Richard Wituszynski record a top-10 individual finish.
Games of 244 and 235 in the morning session helped propel Wituszynski up the standings, and though he didn’t get close to those totals in the afternoon, Wituszynski still finished at 1,259 to finish 10th overall, an average of 209.83 per game.
No one else on the Wildcats got close to those totals as Noah Ackerman had a six-game total of 971, with games of 191 and 184 along the way. Ben Conroy rolled five games of 866, with a high game of 206 in the morning.
Meanwhile, in Class B, Solvay was ninth out of 12 sides with 4,829, Fulton (5,983) claiming the top spot, Alex Gallardo pacing the Bearcats as he placed 58th among individuals with a 1,074 series highlighted by an opening game of 233 and a closing 201.
Jordan Tryon wasn’t far behind, earning a 204 in the fourth game as part of a 1,037 series. Eddie Matysuk had a 927 series and Carter Lee finished with a pinfall of 914 as Ethan Bigelow had an 877.
Liverpool, the Division I (large school) champions, and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, the Division II (small school champs) who held off Homer for that top spot, advanced to next month’s NYSPHSAA tournament at Strike-N-Spare Lanes.
Top individual boys and girls bowlers compete Thursday in the sectional shootout at Rome’s King Pin Lanes.
