Regular-season action for the area’s high school bowling teams began to wind down last week, even as everyone worked around various winter interruptions.
East Syracuse Minoa visited Cortland last Thursday afternoon, and the Spartans split that match, prevailing over the Purple Tigers 3-0 on the boys side.
Sean Timmons led that effort, posting a 637 series with a high game of 222. Chris Bayly was close behind, his 225 game part of a 632 series, and Brett Smith bowled well, too, his 236 leading to a three-game total of 619.
But in the girls match, ESM lost 3-0 to Cortland, though America Carhart shot a 549 series that included a 199 high game. Emily Blakeman added a 528 series and 178 high game as Rachel Deyett earned a 158 game in her 469 set.
All of this trailed the work of the Purple Tigers’ Calista VanEpps, whose consistent striking produced a 644 series as Taylor Culip contributed a 593 series.
There were matches last Tuesday afternoon, including Fayetteville-Manilus facing Syracuse and sweeping both sides of that contest at Green Lakes Bowl.
For the boys Hornets, who prevailed 3-0, Dan Fiumara shot a 239 game and Kevin Winschel added a 204 game. Justin Brooks’ 223 game was part of a 406 series as Max Farber-McEntee contributed a 185 game.
F-M’s girls also won 3-0, with Hannah Brown shooting a 452 series and 176 high game as Rachel Hance added a 441 series and high game of 162.
Christian Brothers Academy faced Altmar-Parish-Williamstown last Tuesday at Strike-N-Spare Lanes, the boys Brothers prevailing 7-0 as Nate Vault shot a 200 in his 508 series. John Dodge’s 180 led to a 476 series as Garrett Bowman got a 460 series and Tavish Johnston shot a 181 game.
On the girls side, CBA won 5-2 over APW, with Anna Ziemba shooting a 397 series that included a 142 high game. Annie Kilmartin had a 374 series and Sophia Schulz contributed a 339 set.
Moving on from there, the CBA boys defeated Chittenango 3-0 on Thursday afternoon, led by Colin Slafkosky, who shot a 500 series. Dodge contributed a 213 game during a 475 series and Matt Potenza shot a 498 series and high game of 193.
Bishop Grimes had a pair of matches with Homer, not getting a point on the boys side, but winning one of the girls matches 2-1 as Audrey Hathaway shot a 208 game in a 483 series. Makenna Gadway had a 423 series (168 high game) and Raquel McDonald’s 160 game led to a 412 set.
