To start another busy week of area high school bowling, Fayetteville-Manlius hosted Auburn at Green Lakes last Monday, and won both sets of matches over the Maroons by 3-0 margins.
By far, the biggest story on this day was Shelby Minor, who was close to perfect in the girls match, rolling a 289 game that included 10 consecutive strikes on her way to a 688 series.
Rachel Hance finished with a 484 series, just ahead of Kendra Elliott’s three-game total of 471 as Julianna Buonfiglio had a 437 series and Lydia Chase contributed a 429 series.
In the boys match, F-M’s Kevin Winschel, a week removed from his 300 game against West Genesee on Dec. 3, remained in good form as he put together a three-game total of 629 that included a 246 high game.
Mike Nanno helped out with a steady 592 series as Adam Koss got a 552 series and 204 high game. Justin Brooks had a 509 series and 183 high game as Dan Fiumara also had a 183 game during his 496 set.
Winschel was again featured on Thursday when F-M faced Cicero-North Syracuse and, getting close to perfection, Winschel helped the Hornets beat the Northstars 2-1.
On his way to a 705 series, Winschel recorded a 278 game, with support from Fiumara, whose 246 game led to a 616 set. Brooks improved to a 568 series, helped by a 221 game as Adam Koss got a 543 series (195 high game) and Aaron Costanza’s 188 game led to a three-game total of 506.
F-M’s girls took a 3-0 defeat to C-NS, even though Minor again was sensational, shooting a 263 game on her way to a 683 series. Hance added a 496 series, but five Northstars had series of 436 or better, led by Trinty Drozdz (560 series) and Jessaia McGriff (548 series).
East Syracuse Minoa was back in action last Wednesday against Oswego at Bowl-Mor Lanes, where the Spartans won both sides.The ESM girls won 3-0 over Oswego as America Carhart had a season-best 255 game on her way to a 608 series.
Rachel Deyett’s 190 game was part of a 530 set as Emily Petrowski had a 485 series and 180 high game. Samantha Robinson had a 447 series and 183 high game.
Though the boys match was closer, the Spartans won 2-1 over the Buccaneers, with Chris Bayly getting a 605 series and 223 high game as Brett Smith shot 234 in his 595 set. Sean Timmons (568 series) and Ryan Buffman (547 series) helped, too, ESM’s depth overcoming the 684 series from Oswego’s Eric Carson.
Christian Brothers Academy met Chittenango last Tuesday at Strike-N-Spare Lanes, winning the boys match 7-0 as Carmen Spinoso led the Brothers, his 180 game part of a 513 series. Garrett Bowman’s 185 game was part of a 441 set as Eddie Niles had a 182 game.
lost a 5-2 girls match to Chittenango last Tuesday afternoon. Sophia Schultz had a 382 series for the Brothers, with Anna Ziemba (360 series) and Annie Kilmartin (350 series) close behind as, for the Bears, Ellie Knox (398 series) and Ciara Colon (390 series) had the top two individual totals.
Then it was CBA against Bishop Grimes on Thursday afternoon, and in the boys match the Brothers swept the Cobras 7-0, but Grimes prevailed 5-2 in the girls match to salvage a split.
Niles led the CBA boys with a 507 series and high game of 188. Bowman followed with a 483 series, just ahead of Matt Potenza’s 471 set and Nate Vault’s 446 series. For Grimes, Jeff Dargiewicz had a 186 game and 499 series as Ben Schultz (425 series) and Ethan Fritz (415 series) followed.
Moving to the girls match, the Cobras’ Raquel McDonald led her side with a 398 series as Olivia Coppola had a 354 series and Makenna Galdway a 349 series. Ziemba paced CBA and led all individuals with a 401 series.
