A perfect September for the Fayetteville-Manlius swim team concluded last Saturday with its easy victory in the Empire Invitational at New Hartford.
With 967.5 points, the Hornets were well clear of Williamsville North (Section VI), who was second with 549 points. Honeoye Falls-Lima was third and host New Hartford fourth.
To get it going, Sasha Brown, Saya Hrosar, Emma Luttrell and Morgan Kingsley went to the 200-yard medley relay and prevailed in two minutes, 1.47 seconds, just ahead of Williamsville North’s 2:03.23.
Then the individuals took over as Hannah Kellogg won the 200 freestyle and Hrosar finished second, while Lindsay Mathews was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:20.41, with Addie Ansthel third and Katie Ottaviano fourth.
Kingsley edged Cara Campell, 26.25 seconds to 26.31, in the 50 freestyle, with Brown fourth. Alessandra Manicone earned first place in the diving competition with 187.10 points.
Ottaviano won the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.88, part of a top-four Hornets sweep as Kingsley finished second in 1:17.96, with Caitlin Remeas third in 1:18.38 and Elizabeth Putelo fourth in 1:20.67.
After Luttrell finished hird in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.06, she went to the front in the 500 freestyle, prevailing in 5:31.01to beat out Mathews, who got second place in 5:33.42.
In the 100 freestyle, Michelle Sipple got second place in 1:00.66, edging Brown (1:00.77) for that runner-up spot. Then Sipple, Kellogg, Brown and Campell dominated the 200 freestyle relay, in 1:45.70.
Kellogg, Campell, Luttrell and Mathews swam the 400 freestyle relay in 3:55 flat to win that event as Hrosar was third in the 100 backstroke in 1:11.33.
Having rested for nearly two weeks, F-M returned to action last Wednesday at Auburn, where it smothered the Maroons 96-57.
Luttrell won twice, going 2:23.74 in the 200 IM and also wining the 100 freestyle in 59.30 seconds. Campell was victorious in the 50 freestyle in 25.95 seconds as Kellogg won the 500 freestyle in 5:37.67.
Campell, Luttrell, Antshel and Kingsley swam the 200 medley relay in 2:00.29 before the Hornets took the 200 freestyle relay, having Luttrell, Kingsley, Campell and Mathews post 1:48.63.
