As it turned out, the extra rest gained when the Skaneateles girls tennis team’s match with Bishop Grimes last Monday was rained out benefited the Lakers for the rest of the week.
Things had dried out by the time the Lakers visited Westhill last Tuesday afternoon, and it managed its most impressive effort of the season so far, sweeping the Warriors 7-0.
It began in singles with Isabella Kroon recording a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Mikayla Carroll, continued with Rachael Feeney’s 6-1, 6-2 win over Grace Lesselroth and included Hope Allyn battling past Cami Cortez 6-3, 6-4.
Each of the doubles matches were straight-set victories for the Lakers, too, as Ella Danforth and Emma Miller handled Camille Argentieri and Zoe Hynes 6-0, 6-2, with Riley Fouts and Bridget Neumann topping Sophia Frost and Sophie Langdon 6-3, 6-4.
Sophia Sorderberg and Olivia Walker gave Skaneateles a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jillian Eckert and Kaley Richmond as Marin Doyle and Gracie Lee worked past Hannah Johnston and Bridget Thornton 6-1, 6-2.
Off until Friday, the Lakers then took on Manlius-Pebble Hill at Austin Park and slipped a bit in singles, but swept the doubles on the way to a 5-2 win over the Trojans.
Danforth and Miller roared past Sara Antonevich and Ava Benedict 6-0, 6-2, just as Doyle and Lee got past Emma Gross and Grace Zhang 6-2, 6-3, while Soderberg and Walker routed Kaeli Ahn and Caroline Mezzalingua 6-0, 6-1.
Pushed to a third set, Fouts and Neumann held off Eva Englich and Eden Hildebrandt 7-6, 4-6, 12-10. Kroon handled Halle Erwin 6-1, 6-2 in singles as Allyn dropped a 6-7, 7-6, 10-4 battle with Genevieve Morrow and Feeney lost, 6-1, 6-1, to Parmees Fazeli.
On Tuesday, Skaneateles (6-1) is set to make up the Bishop Grimes match just before battling Marcellus on Wednesday and a key match against its fellow Lakers from Cazenovia on Friday.
