With its strong start in an April full of weather interruptions, the Liverpool girls golf team had firmly established itself as a favorite in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division.
Or at least that was the case until last Tuesday’s match against Cicero-North Syracuse Blue, where the Northstars came to Liverpool Country Club and, with it superior depth, knocked off the Warriors 195-201.
Though Liverpool’s Nataly Avotins had the low individual nine-hole score of 41, C-NS Blue saw Morgan Siechen put up a 44 to match that of Mia Avotins.
Then the Northstars went out in front when Abby Ainsworth shot a 47, Amy Krohl finished with a 50 and Lexi Miller picked up a 54, all of whom were ahead of the Warriors’ tandem of Hanna Dombroski and Aliah Debejian, who both finished at 58.
A day earlier, Liverpool had handled West Genesee 202-231 at LCC Mia Avotins shot a 40, with Natalya Avotins adding a 43. Both topped the Wildcats’ low rounds of 52 from Mikaela Riley and Hannah Kirk as Dombroski had a 58 and Debejian added a 61.
Following its win over Liverpool, C-NS Blue played a three-team match on Thursday and shot 192 to hold off host Oswego (198) and Central Square (235).
Siechen accounted for much of the winning margin for the Northstars over the Buccaneers, shooting a 42 at Oswego Country Club, five ahead of Oswego’s Catherine Volkomer. Ainsworth shot a 47 to match Volkomer as Krohl shot a 50 and Maddie Ranalli had a 53.
C-NS Blue then moved to 6-1 on the season on Friday, prevailing 192-213 over West Genesee. At Westvale, Siechen braved the winds to shoot a 44 ahead of Riley (46) and Kirk (47), while Krohl finished with a 48.
In its matches last week, C-NS Green played last Tuesday and lost, 207-258, to Baldwinsville. Jessica Riccardi had a 60 at Timber Banks, with Madison Costello shooting a 64. Emma Gasque and Korrin LaTray each shot 67 as, for the Bees, Emma Brushingham had a 46 and Margaret Dec posted a 49.
Then C-NS Green had to take on league-leading Fayetteville-Manlius at Green Lakes, with the Hornets improving to 5-0 with a 171-250 victory, led by Lucy Fowler’s 39 and Paige Freyer’s 43
Up against East Syracuse Minoa Blue on Thursday, C-NS Green had a 223-246 loss, with Riccardi improving to a 59 ahead of Emma Gasque (61), Emma Sutor (63) and Holly Tinsch (64). Hannah Johnson led the Spartans with a 51.
