With all the snow cleared out, it was finally time for area high school boys tennis teams to take part in season-opening matches, as long as it stayed dry.

Marcellus did gain a point in first singles when Andrew Kammer routed James Plunkett 6-1, 6-0. But WG’s duo of Matt Mannara and Noah Ruston each won 6-0, 6-0 matches over, respectively, Chris Babaro and Tyler Szalach.
The Wildcats claimed all four doubles points, with one of the matches going to three sets as John Northrop and Stefan Atansov rallied from an early deficit to top Noah LaFever and Shawn Manke 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.
Otherwise, Robert Jocz and Erik Shanahan handled Dan Wrona and Justin Costa 6-1, 6-4. Max Mekker and Michael White had a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Nate Murphy and Quinn Clarke as Carter McRea and Anthony DiLorenzo topped Hawes and Jackson Spanfelner 6-2, 6-0.
Westhill met Phoenix in its opener last Monday, and swept the Firebirds 5-0 in single-set matches. Jackson Bradley, in first singles, handled Evan Baldini 10-2.
Mike Ferrera got past Dave Burgess 10-3, with David Bleskoski handling Josh Van Gorder 10-1. In doubles, Dan Ferrara and Tom Chaddock had a 10-1 romp over Sam Stellingwerf and Ryan Lange as Connor Mahoney and Nick Sauro beat Ethan Listowisk and Jacob Tangora by that same margin.
Then the Warriors moved to 2-0 by handling Manlius-Pebble Hill 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon. Bradley lost in singles, but Ferrera topped Charlie Mann 6-1, 7-5 as Bleskoski earned a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Dan Mezzalingua.
Claiming both of the doubles points, Westhill had Chaddock pair with Ryan Rolince to top Keerthi Martyn and Jeff Bush 6-0, 6-3, with Mahoney and Sauro beating Cam Ciotoli and J.J. Braverman 6-3, 6-2.
To complete a 3-0 run through its opening week, Westhill shut out Bishop Grimes 5-0 on Friday afternoon. Between them, Bradley, Bleskoski and Ferrara lost just two games in six sets of singles play.
