Though a combined unit with a small roster, the Bishop Ludden/Onondaga boys lacrosse team is finding quite a bit of success in the early portion of the 2018 season.
To start a busy slate of its schedule, Ludden/OCS pummeled Chittenango 17-3 last Tuesday night, taking charge when it outscored the Bears 8-1 in the second quarter as Matt Delany and Bailey Martin each netted five goals to pace the Knights.
Mac Mulhern had five assists as he and Zach Delany both scored twice, Delany tacking on a pair of assists. Carter Gentile and Ethan Gentile each had one goal and one assist, with Jared Wood also getting a goal. Cody Ellis and Jason Holbrook added assists.
Then Ludden/OCS won a tough 9-8 battle with Vernon-Verona-Sherrill on Thursday, breaking out of a 4-4 halftime tie with a strong third quarter and then hanging on down the stretch thanks to Hurley, who stopped 18 of the 26 shots he faced.
The Delanys carried the attack, with Zach Delany scoring four times and Matt Delany getting three goals and three assists. Other goals went to Martin and Gentile as Mulhern contributed an assist.
To complete a 3-0 week, Ludden/OCS defeated Clinton 16-3 on Saturday afternoon. During a dominant first half, Ludden/OCS steadily shredded the Warriors’ defense, not letting up until it had established a 13-1 margin.
Matt Delany more than doubled Clinton’s output by himself, earning seven goals as Zach Delany got four assists. Martin had three goals and one assist as Mulhern had a goal and three assists. Nick Richards, Jeff Dargiewicz, Carter Gentile, Ethan Gentile and Nate Frye had one goal apiece, with Ellis adding an assist.
Jordan-Elbridge met up with Cazenovia last Tuesday and lost, 12-3, to the Lakers, who bolted out to a 6-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and never got caught.
Luke Pinckney, Riordan Parker and Griffin LaFleur earned the Eagles’ goals, with Deacon Hill contributing an assist. Steve Tripp finished with 14 saves as Thomas Bragg and Alex Nowak led Cazenovia, each with four goals and one assist.
A 15-2 defeat to Tully followed on Friday, with J-E only getting goals from Pinckney and Cole Mullen in the second half. The Black Knights had Tyler Edinger get five goals and one assist, with Jake Edinger adding three goals and three assists.
