Armed with all of the confidence gained by a run to last spring’s Section III Class A championship game, the Baldwinsville girls lacrosse team hopes to go a step or two further in 2018.
Head coach Megan Collins’ second season at the helm commenced last Saturday with a visit from long-time Section V power Brighton, but the Bees proved too tough on both ends, defeating the Barons 11-4.
B’ville attacked hard from the opening draw, and had Brighton’s defense rattled. By claiming enough of those draws and controlling possession, the Bees were able to build an 8-2 halftime advantage.
Katie Pascale and Monica Lannier both finished with three-goal hat tricks, Pascale adding two assists as Emma States delivered two goals and one assist.
Hannah Johnson and Sara Goodwin added further depth, each getting one goal and one assist as Maria Henwood earned B’ville’s other goal. Splitting the duties in goal, Molly Merryweather and Jordan Roy got seven total saves.
B’ville would stay home Tuesday to take on another Section V foe, Penfield, and then head to the Rochester suburbs to face Rush-Henrietta Friday night before its Salt City Athletic Conference debut April 12 against Fayetteville-Manlius.
