In advance of next Sunday’s Section III championships at Strike-N-Spare Lanes, bowling teams from Solvay and West Genesee still had plenty of matches to get finished.
The undefeated girls Bearcats stayed that way with last Tuesday’s 7-0 shutout over Altmar-Parish-Williamstown. Jessica Birdslow had a solid 557 series and high game of 206, while Caitlin McCann’s 164 game was part of a 450 set.
But that was just a warm-up for Thursday’s match with Bishop Grimes, where in another 7-0 shutout Birdslow roared to a season-best 669 series with a 247 high game. McCann contributed a 457 series and Abby Lee had a three-game total of 415.
Solvay’s boys team took a 5-2 defeat to Christian Brothers Academy last Monday afternoon. Zach Mashaw had a 195 game and a three-game total of 507 as Trent McLaughlin got a 486 series (186 high game) and Denis Mujcic added a 461 series. CBA got a 587 series and 213 high game from Vincent Carno as Nate Vault added a 511 series.
A day later, against APW, the boys Bearcats matched the girls’ 7-0 winning margin, Nate Gardner leading the way as his 533 series included a high game of 210. McLaughlin shot a 187 game in his 500 set as Mujcic had a 485 series and 184 high game.
In the Solvay boys’ 5-2 defeat to Bishop Grimes on Thursday, Mujcic had a three-game total of 480 (194 high game) and Mashaw had a 450 series but they trailed the Cobras’ Jordan Newman, who led all individuals with a 558 series.
West Genesee’s girls team took on Fayetteville-Manlius last Monday at Green Lakes, less than a week after they had met at Solvay Recreation Alley in a match the Hornets won 2-1.
Here, it went 3-0 in F-M’s favor, though Gina Neri continued to have solid numbers, her 455 series including a high game of 190.
Katie Drogo added a 410 series (166 high game) and Emily Shields a 382 series as Julianna Buonfiglio (490 series) and Shelby Minor (485 series) had the Hornets’ top totals.
A day later, it was both of WG’s sides hosting Cicero-North Syracuse, and neither getting a point.
The boys Wildcats’ 3-0 loss featured Conor Matthewson shooting a 537 series (179 high game) as Richard Wituszynski had a 491 series and Ben Conroy got a 474 series. Five Northstars bowlers had series of 508 or higher, with Tyler Dottolo (635 series) leading the way.
In the girls match, WG lost 3-0, with Shields shooting a team-best 473 series and high game of 173. Drogo’s 170 led to a 430 set as Neri had a 398 series. Topping them all, C-NS’s Carly Lescenski shot a three-game total of 547.
The busy week concluded Thursday with WG’s sides each beating Syracuse at Strike-N-Spare. The girls Wildcats won 3-0 as Lux led the with a 375 series and Gina Neri earned a high game of 168.
While the boys match was closer, WG topped Syracuse 2-1, led by Conroy’s 607 series and 227 high game. Wituszynski’s 212 game was part of a 537 set as Matthewson’s 450 series just topped a 446 series from Deano Procopio. Josh Williams had a 533 series for Syracuse.
