On their way to seeking top honors in this weekend’s Section III championships at Nottingham High School, the Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse girls swim teams first had to complete their regular-season slates.
For the Warriors, that meant traveling to Baldwinsville last Tuesday night and keeping the Bees winless, the Testone sisters leading the charge in a 50-41 victory over the Bees.
Ali Testone went two minutes, 9.47 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle, winning that race, and didn’t stop there, also winning the 100 butterfly in 1:06.65.
In between those races, Jessica Testone took her turn at the top, winning the 50 freestyle in 27.40 seconds over Avery Clarke (28.58), while Jaida Fox won the 200 individual medley in 2:30.20.
Maddie Rose went 59.93 seconds to prevail in the 100 freestyle, also pairing with Fox, Delaney Gellert and Petit to take the 200 freestyle relay in 1:52.32 as Rose, Fox, Megan Winn and Marissa Pisegna took the 200 medley relay in 2:07.79. Rose swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.93 and Winn (1:12.17) edged Lauren Flynn (1:12.96) in the 100 backstroke.
C-NS had a meet Wednesday, at Oswego, where Brooke Fedi and Grace Devinney each won two races, yet the Northstars still lost to the Buccaneers 97-86.
Fedi dominated the 200 IM, her time of 2:21.19 one of the quickest in Section III this season and more than 13 seconds ahead of the other swimmers. Then, in the 100 butterfly, Fedi prevailed in 1:03.33 over Oswego’s Margo McBreaty (1:05.52).
Devinney needed 2:09.50 to hold off the Bucs’ Zeida Olson (2:11.82) and win the 200 freestyle, moving on to the 500 freestyle, where she posted the top time of 5:50.33.
Oswego won every other event, though, leaving Olivia Griffin second in both the 50 freestyle (27.38 seconds) and 100 freestyle (59.78 seconds) as Maddie Thorne had 210.95 points in diving, beaten by the Bucs’ Laura Bornheimer, who had 277.05 points.
A close 200 freestyle relay saw Fedi, Griffin, Devinney and Alyssa LaFace post 1:48.72, just behind Oswego’s 1;48.41. Sarah Walter, second in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.72, paired with Fedi, Devinney and Griffin to go 2:02.89 in the 200 medley relay to the Bucs’ 2:01.18
