When the Fayetteville-Manlius boys volleyball team hosted Baldwinsville last Tuesday night, it put together a four-set victory over the Bees and improved to 6-3 on the season.
Back on Sept. 15, the Hornets had lost to B’ville in five sets, F-M, in the rematch, pulled out the first and second sets by close margins, 25-20 and 25-22. Then, in the third set, the Bees dominated, 25-13, only to give that right back as F-M closed it out, 25-17, in the fourth.
Cade Collum, with 14 kills, and Chris Perry, with 30 assists, led F-M’s efforts. Jordan Glazier got 11 digs as Aaron Costanza earned seven kills, with Joe Powless and Anderson Fuller getting four kills apiece. Collum had three blocks as Costanza gained five digs.
For B’ville, Tyler Aiello still managed 16 kills, with Nate Johns adding 12 kills. Cole Zsemyle had a season-best nine kills as Dan Cerqua got 27 assists, plus four aces, and Aidan Priest had six digs.
F-M swept three close sets from Midlakes on Saturday, the 26-24, 25-22, 25-23 decision involving 33 assists from Perry and eight digs from Glazier as Collum put away 16 kills, supported by Powless (seven kills), Costanza (five kills) and Fuller (four kills).
J-D’s boys volleyball team won on Wednesday, beating Syracuse as the Red Rams lost the first set 25-23, but won the next two sets by equal 25-16 margins before taking the fourth set 25-21.
Matt Cieplicki dominated on J-D’s front line, earning 18 kills. Owen Farchione and Nick Mandelis each had five kills, with Cameron Howe adding four kills and four aces. Liam Kaplan fed all of them with 30 assists.
On Friday, J-D lost in four sets to Central Square, the key a third set that went well over the limit before the Redhawks took it 31-29 as it also won the first set 25-23 and the fourth 25-19, with the Rams only getting a 25-14 second set. Cieplicki had 14 kills, with Mandelis adding 10 kills and Kaplan picking up 34 assists as Farchione had six kills and Ian Freezman five kills.
