The Skaneateles girls soccer team kept challenging itself as September wound down and temperatures started to cool, too.
In last Wednesday night’s visit to Alibrandi Stadium, the Lakers contained Christian Brothers Academy for a while, but could not do so for 80 minutes in a 2-0 defeat to the Brothers.
Throughout the first half, both sides had chances, but it stayed 0-0, Abbey Logan on her way to eight saves as she took her turn in the Skaneateles net. But in the second half CBA twice put shots past Logan as Grace Hulslander and Meghan McKeen earned the goals. Skaneateles took six shots, all stopped by Catherine Burns.
Pushed back to the .500 mark at 5-5, the Lakers rose back above that break-even barrier in Saturday’s game at Phoenix, where the offense returned throughout the course of a 6-2 win over the Firebirds.
Skaneateles streaked out to a 4-1 lead by halftime, and much of that was due to Tess Peterson, who broke out with a career-best total of four goals. Lyda Buck and Riley Brogan would also net goals to counter those by Phoenix’s Alexandra Hoag and Erika Brown, each of them assisted by Emilie Hilliard.
On Tuesday, the Lakers would take a 6-5 record to Altmar-Parish-Williamstown before a Thursday game at Mexico.
