Hot temperatures brought it close to July than September when the Baldwinsville girls tennis team took the court last Monday against Cicero-North Syracuse, but the Bees did enough, especially on the doubles side, to edge the Northstars 4-3.
Of those four doubles matches, B’ville claimed three of them. Paige Tromblee and Lauren Devine got it going with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ava Breitbeck and Miranda Szwej 6-2, 6-2, with Emily Faldeau and Allison Delaney working hard to beat Vanessa Luangaphay and Jenna Wilson 6-4, 7-5.
A long, three-set battle saw Taylor and Brooke Tripodi fall to Danielle Dottler and Lexi Pyke 5-7, 6-3, 7-5. Up in singles, Hannah Gold lost, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, to Cora Temple, with Riley Warren falling to Nicole Perrigo 7-5, 6-1, but Brooke Tutor dominated in first singles, routing Hanna Costello 6-0, 6-1.
B’ville was not as successful in its match against visiting Liverpool two days later, taking a 5-2 defeat to the Warriors.
Alina Minkova got the lone singles point, beating Gabby Underwood 6-4, 6-2, while in doubles Devine and Kathryn Grage won , 6-2, 6-4, over Valerie and Crystal Morgans, and there were two other chances in matches that went to three sets.
Benton Audrey led early against Diana Kozenyatko but could not hold on in a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 defeat. Warren and Brooke Tripodi paired up and pushed Erica Gibbs and Natalie Kidd to a third set before taking a 6-3, 6-7 (7-5), 7-6 defeat.
Elsewhere, Tromblee, in first singles, lost, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 to Liverpool’s Erin Chambrone, with Gold and Delaney taking a 6-2, 6-3 defeat to Julie Schewe and Meghan Blake. Liz Daughty and Jessica Rush lost to Giana LaValle and Aryanna Davia.
Then B’ville had to deal with undefeated Fayetteville-Manlius on Friday, and was unable to earn a point in a 7-0 loss to the Hornets. Rush and Taylor Tripodi were in the closet match, falling to Alexis Ahn and Samhitha Adavikolanu 6-3, 6-4, with Audrey, Paige Tromblee and Ella Tromblee getting just four total games in their six sets of singles play.
